  • Doing the Work of Byron Katie about the Summer I was Homeless
    2024/12/19

As the year comes to a close, many of us find ourselves being unusually hard on ourselves. The “itty-bitty-shitty committee” in our minds grows louder, fueled by the pressure of the year-end. We take stock of the past twelve months and too often hold them against ourselves like a harsh jury.

For some, the holidays — the Christmas season — can feel particularly challenging, especially if the memories associated with this time aren’t the happiest. It’s a season that often drags us back into childhood, stirring up complicated emotions.

In today’s episode, I’m sharing a deeply personal story of how I’ve learned to rewrite stories about a time I was once homeless, the profound impact of Byron Katie’s teachings, and what's possible when you turn these stories around.

If you’re feeling the weight of the year or the pull of old memories, this one’s for you. Let’s dive in.

  • Betting on Yourself, Your Brain Child, and on Open Science with Dr. Joyce Kao and Dr. Heidi Seibold of Digital Research Academy
    2024/12/12

I'm joined by Joyce Kao and Heidi Seibold, the co-founders of the Digital Research Academy.

Joyce and Heidi have an inspiring entrepreneurial journey.

As former researchers, they decided to take the leap and co-found the Digital Research Academy, a training network focused on open science and research best practices.

In our conversation, they share the challenges they faced in making the decision to build the academy independently and how coaching helped them gain clarity on a key decision for the academy, or their "brain child."

Now in their first year, they're seeing incredible demand for their work and are passionate about the importance of open science.

This is a story of betting on yourself, finding the right partner, and using your expertise to create something meaningful.

    2024/12/09

This is a replay of a recent online workshop I delivered called "How to Tap into Brain Magic When the World Feels like a Dumpster Fire."

    Here's what you'll learn:

    • Why accessing the unconscious matters when you want to take new action and advocate for yourself, especially when you're a woman, a person of color, or of any other marginalized identity
    • How to overcome self-advocacy jitters and imposter syndrome, particularly for women, minorities, and neurodiverse individuals.
    • A demo of the "shift out and shut up" technique, something you can do in the middle of 1:1 conversations to help you feel more grounded, attentive, and alive.
    • A demo of a simple practice based on Princeton University's Dr. Les Fehmi's book Open Focus Brain, which induces alpha brain wave state
    • How to lower anxiety by activating both sides of the brain.
    • A demo of a guided visualization to mentally rehearse a desired outcome.
    • Tangible techniques to improve neuroplasticity and confidence.

  • Investing in Women Leaders: Patricia Lizarraga, CEO and Portfolio Manager of W CEO ETF
    2024/11/22

In this episode of Risky Conversations, we talk about betting on and investing in women leaders.

I'm joined by Patricia Lizarraga, CEO and portfolio manager of the W CEO ETF, who discusses her journey from growing up in a military dictatorship in Lima, Peru, to her career in finance.

She highlights the challenges and opportunities she faced, including starting a sorority at Yale and bringing financial products to Peru.

Patricia explains the investment thesis of the W CEO ETF, which focuses on women CEOs outperforming, because as women, they've had to consistently outperform and overcome many internal and external barriers.

W CEO ETF, which invests in 140 U.S. companies with female CEOs, has shown an average outperformance of 170 basis points per annum and has outperformed its comparables by 70-90 basis points since its inception in January 2023.

We talked about the importance of diversification and impact investing, aiming to increase female representation in leadership roles.

  • Why I'm training in hypnosis + invitation to Brain Magic workshop (on 11/21/24)
    2024/11/10

If you've ever doubted yourself, felt out of place, or struggled with imposter syndrome as a woman or person of marginalized identity, remember this:

    There’s nothing wrong with you.

The corporate ladders are broken. Leadership pipelines are broken. It’s not your fault that society conditions women and marginalized people to question their worth.

We’re all put into “trances”—altered states of consciousness triggered by external influences—that lead us to second-guess ourselves.

It’s essential to have tools to snap out of these unwanted trances and connect with the full power of your mind—your Brain Magic.

That’s why I’m inviting you to my free, interactive workshop:

How to Tap into Your Brain Magic When the World Seems Like a Dumpster Fire

    Thursday, 11/21/24, 1pm ET

Join me to discover practical tools that will help you access your inner strength and clarity.

  • Post-Election Love Letter to Women, Immigrants, and People of Color
    2024/11/07

Today's episode is recorded on November 7th, 2024 — just days after the U.S. election.

Like many of you, I’ve been navigating big, complex emotions: grief, disappointment, and a familiar feeling of heartbreak.

Today, I’ll share a personal reflection on what this election meant to me as an immigrant, a woman of color, and a coach who serves women striving for leadership in a flawed system.

We'll explore how Kamala Harris’s concession speech spoke to the hopes and resilience of so many of us, and I’ll offer a few practices to help ground us in this challenging time.

Above all, this episode is a reminder that we have the capacity to do extraordinary good in the world, even when it seems a door has closed.

  • “What Would Celeste Donovan Do?” with Rachael Eckles of Trading Secrets Fiction Series
    2024/11/05

I’m Jamie Lee, an executive coach for ambitious overthinkers who want to stop holding themselves back and start advocating confidently to advance their careers.

If you’re curious about how to make that happen for yourself, visit jamieleecoach.com, where you can take a quick leadership archetype quiz or dive into over 100 blog posts packed with actionable tips on self-advocacy.

One of the biggest challenges I hear from high-achievers is figuring out how to balance their creative side with their ambitious, career-driven goals.

So many of us get caught up in all-or-nothing thinking: we assume that to pursue our creative passions, we have to sacrifice our professional success, or vice versa.

But what if it’s possible to do both? What if, by doubting ourselves a little less and taking a few bold steps forward, we could create a career that allows space for all of our ambitions?

Today, we’re talking to someone who embodies this possibility beautifully. I’m thrilled to introduce Rachael Eckles—a lawyer, bioethicist, and award-winning novelist.

Rachael has built a career that lets her thrive as both a successful professional and a creative force.

We’re going to dive into the risks she took along the way, the decisions that helped her merge these passions, and, of course, her fierce female protagonist who lights up her fiction series.

    You'll learn:

    • Rachel's diverse background and career journey, including her bold move to ask for a role at a pharmaceutical company's bioethics program early in her career.
    • Navigating office politics and gender bias as a woman in male-dominated industries like healthcare and finance.
    • The inspiration and creation behind Rachel's "Trading Secrets" book series, featuring the powerful and unapologetic character of Celeste Donovan.
    • Rachel's philanthropic efforts through her foundation Aphrodite Gives, which supports initiatives empowering women and girls globally.
    • Advice Rachel shares for women in the workplace, including the importance of being confident, assertive, and advocating for yourself.
    • The role of storytelling as a common thread throughout Rachel's diverse career experiences.
    • Rachel's plans to continue writing and publishing books, as well as her openness to collaborating with other female authors committed to philanthropy.
