• REPLAY Ep. 229 Finding Your Purpose Even If You Don't Love What You Are Doing Now
    2024/12/31
We are taking a couple of weeks to enjoy the Winter Season and while we are out we wanted to share with you one of the most popular Simply Said episodes from a couple of years ago. We will be back in 2025 with all new shows to help us live well, do good, and be happy. We hope you enjoy this 2023 episode of Simply Said. You Write the Definition Is it possible to live a life of meaning and purpose even if we are in a dead-end job? Yes. And doing that might be the secret to a happy life. When we live a life of meaning and identify with our purpose, research shows we live healthier, happier lives. Yet, we all have roles and responsibilities that may feel less than fulfilling. Even then it is possible to connect with our purposes and find meaning by looking at the patterns in our lives and recognizing the times we feel devoid of purpose and connected to it. Our purpose doesn't diminish based on our jobs or responsibilities, but how we express it will change throughout our lives. By reframing the moments of our lives, evaluating our values, and defining what success means to us we can create meaningful, satisfying, purposeful lives in even the most difficult circumstances. In this week's episode, Polly explains how using questions to prompt reflection can help us move closer to the meaningful lives we want to live. And it's OK to do what you need to cope with it this time of year--even if it means changing how you celebrate. • Ep. 293 How to Talk Civilly About Difficult Things
    2024/12/10
We cannot solve the problems facing the world right now if we are unable to communicate, in a civil and open way, with one another, especially with those who think radically differently than we do. In this show, psychologist Dr. Ben Michaelis, founder of the Decency Project and author of Your Next Big Thing: Ten Small Steps to Get Moving and Get Happy, says we can learn to communicate well about difficult things and that kind of civil discussion begins with self-awareness and tolerant actions.
