    2022/10/03

'NBA, Mate!' is UK's show about NBA basketball where we discuss anything and everything to do with the most exciting sports league in the world.

In episode, I discuss the NET rating - an advanced rating measuring a team's output on both offence and defence per 100 possessions. I look at the stat from historical context and analyse whether we can use it as a predictor for playoff success. Then I make my bet on which teams will be top 5 in NET rating in the upcoming season.

  • E9: Is Kevin Durant overrated as a scorer?
    2022/09/28

'NBA, Mate!' is UK's show about NBA basketball where we discuss anything and everything to do with the most exciting sports league in the world.

In today's episode, I discussed one of the greatest scorers of all time - Kevin Durant. However, I actually decided to dive deep into two narratives around KD which I personally find wrong - that he could be considered the greatest scorer of all time, and that he is 'unguardable'.

I make arguments about why I disagree with both and provide some data to back my claims.

Whether you agree or disagree with me, feel free to connect by sending me an email to denis.vi@outlook.com. Very soon I will be opening social media accounts for 'NBA, Mate!' so you can contact me in a more convenient way.

Thanks for listening as always and have a great day!

  • E7: Dark Horse NBA MVP candidates next season
    2022/09/16

'NBA, Mate!' is UK's show about NBA basketball, where we discuss anything and everything to do with the most exciting sports league in the world.

In today's episode, I look at next season's MVP award candidates. While the likes of Nikola Jokic, Joel Embiid and Giannis Antetokounmpo are strong favorites, there are few players whom, if things go their way, could make a quick jump into the discussion and be serious contenders for the award.

I examine 4 different scenarios in which these players could make a run for the NBA award - what needs to happen and why it could happen.

If you want to get in touch with me for this or any of the previous episodes, feel free to send me an email on denis.vi@outlook.com. I will soon create social media channels for 'NBA, Mate!' so you can contact me in a more convenient matter.

  • E5: Anthony Edwards's harmful comment and what I find wrong with it
    2022/09/12

'NBA, Mate!' is UK's show about NBA basketball where we discuss anything and everything to do with the most exciting sports league in the world.

In this episode, I spoke about Anthony Edwards's - the young Minnesota Timberwolves star - comments that he shared on an Instagram story, using 'queer' as a derogatory term directed towards couple of men, adding 'what the world has gone to'.

I listed three reasons why I find his comment very innapropriate and wrong, how that affects my NBA fandom and feeling towards the league and its players and what should happen from here on in my opinion.

Feel free to reach out to me on denis.vi@outlook.com and let me know what is your opinion on the topic.

  • E4: Discussing my top 10 NBA players right now and all-time list with Manish Kumar; is Patrick Beverley a good addition for the Lakers?
    2022/09/11

'NBA, Mate!' is UK's show about NBA basketball where we discuss the most exciting sports league in the world and everything to do with it.

In the first 'big meal', long-form that I am releasing, I spoke with Manish Kumar - my flatmate and passionate NBA and Kobe Bryant fan - about the top 10 NBA players right now and of all time lists that I published earlier this week (you can find links for them underneath).

First we spoke about the top players in the NBA right now (03:43 to 48:10) and whether LeBron still deserves to be in the top 4, is Nikola Jokic underrated by the majority of NBA fans and media and can we put Jason Tatum over Kevin Durant because of their direct encounter in the 2022 playoffs.

Then we moved on to the all time list (48:10 to 1:26:42) where we discussed what consitutes a great legacy, does offence or defence matter more and is Wilt actually (slightly) overrated as a scorer when context is provided. We finished by discussing the Patrick Beverley move to the LA Lakers (1:26:42 to end), how will that affect the team and do the Lakers have a shot at the championship this year.

Listen to my top 10 NBA players right now list by clicking here or my top 10 NBA players of all time by clicking here.

If you want to send me any piece of feedback, please do it to denis.vi@outlook.com. Very soon I will create channels for the podcast which will enable more discussion and conversations between you and me.

Thanks so much for listening and until next time!

  • E3: Is Bradley Beal the worst player ever to average over 30 in a season?
    2022/09/09

NBA, Mate! is UK's show about NBA basketball where we discuss anything and everything to do with the most exciting sports league in the world.

In episode 3, I start with an assumption that Bradley Beal is the worst player ever to average over 30 points per game in a single season. Having done it twice in the last 3 years, Beal put himself among an elite category of players - maybe too elite for his own luck. Comparing him to the players who averaged 30 or more lately (Steph Curry, James Harden, Joel Embiid, etc.) he is definitely lacking accolades and overall impact, but I wondered if that is the case for the whole of NBA's history or were there players worse than Beal who put up 30 or more.

I researched the topic and in the end was able to prove or disprove my assumption. What do you think - is Beal the worst player to average 30 points per game in a season? Tune in to find out!
