Which do you care about more: reputation or righteousness?

FRUITS OF THE SPIRIT ACTION: PATIENCE
Choose to wait without complaining today. Take a moment to shift your focus to gratitude instead

Today’s daily devotional is based on the story of Saul Disobeys God. Saul is rejected as king. His pride, greed, and disobedience lost him the favor of God and Samuel weeps over Saul’s fall.
    STORY
Bible in a Year: Saul Disobeys God
    Scripture
"Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams." - 1 Samuel 15:22
What does it mean to truly obey God? Is it singing the right songs and wearing the right clothes? Is it saying the right things and reciting the right verses?

In this episode of Bible in a Year, we encounter the story of King Saul's disobedience to God's command regarding the Amalekites. God instructs Saul to wipe out the Amalekites and all their possessions as a judgment for their past sins against Israel. However, Saul chooses to spare King Agag and the best of the livestock so everyone would see how strong he is.

Saul chose personal glory over humble obedience.

When confronted by the prophet Samuel, Saul attempts to justify his actions by claiming that he had saved the best animals to sacrifice to the Lord. But Samuel saw right through him. Saul had all the right words, but his heart wasn’t in the right place. Samuel rebukes Saul, declaring, "Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams" (1 Samuel 15:22).

Faithfulness to God isn’t just about performing outward acts of worship or sacrifice. God cares about our hearts! Saul's failure to fully carry out God's instructions reveals a heart that prioritizes reputation over righteousness.

Are there areas in which we prioritize our own interests or desires above God's commands? Do we offer sacrifices and acts of worship to God while neglecting to obey His word in our daily lives?

True obedience requires humility, surrender, and a willingness to submit to God's authority. It involves aligning our will with His and obeying His commands, even when it may not be convenient or easy. Like Saul, we may be tempted to offer outward acts of worship while disregarding God's instructions, but true obedience requires a heart that seeks to please God above all else.

    REFLECTION
Take time to examine your heart and attitudes toward obedience to God. Are there areas in your life where you have prioritized your own desires over God's commands? This week, commit to obeying God wholeheartedly in every area of your life, trusting that true fulfillment and blessing come from aligning your will with His. Pray for the humility and strength to obey God's word faithfully, knowing that obedience is the pathway to experiencing His abundant grace and blessings.

    PRAYER
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king.
    1 SAMUEL 15:23
Lord, through today's reading of 1 Samuel and through the life of Saul, I now see that obedience is better than sacrifice. With this truth, I am now going through my life, and like the Amalekites, I will get rid of anything that is contrary to Your word and to the life You are helping me to build. I will not let the “King Agags” in my life, that represent sinful and destructive behaviors, linger around me when You’ve commanded me to eradicate them completely. I will not partner myself with people who have corrupt and compromising character no matter how much wealth they promise me. Instead, like Samuel I will sever all ties because obedience to You is better than sacrificing my integrity for treasures and wealth that will bring my downfall. There’s no disloyalty in me God, I am unwavering and locked into my purpose! In Jesus’ Name, Amen. 🙏🏾

    Your Nightly Prayer 🙏🏾 1 Chronicles 16:11

Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his face continually.”
    1 CHRONICLES 16:11

    DEVOTION
    Based on 1 Chronicles 16
This verse invites us into a lifestyle of constant pursuit—seeking the Lord not just in moments of need but daily, moment by moment. We are called to seek His strength because our own will falters. We are called to seek His face because nothing compares to the beauty of His presence.

To seek God’s face is to desire closeness, to long not just for what He gives but for who He is. It’s about relationships, intimacy, and dependence. His strength sustains us, and His presence transforms us. The more we seek Him, the more we find peace, clarity, and joy.

Take a moment tonight to turn your heart fully toward Him. Breathe out weariness, and breathe in His strength. Ask Him to help you seek Him continually—with all your heart.
    A.C.T.S. REFLECTION
ADORATION: Praise God for being near and knowable. Worship Him for His strength, His beauty, and the joy of seeking His face.

CONFESSION: Reflect on times when you’ve sought strength elsewhere or neglected to seek His presence. Confess any distractions and return your focus to Him.

THANKSGIVING: Thank God for being available and faithful every time you seek Him. Express gratitude for the strength and peace He gives to those who draw near.

SUPPLICATION: Father, help me to seek You continually—not only in trouble but in every moment. Fill me with Your strength and draw me closer to Your heart. Let my life be marked by a deep desire to know and follow You.

This verse reminds us that true joy and fulfillment are found not in circumstances, but in God’s presence. He doesn’t just point us toward life—He walks with us, guiding us step by step. His path leads to peace, purpose, and eternal delight.

Joy in His presence isn’t temporary or shallow—it’s full and lasting. The world offers distractions and quick fixes, but only God satisfies the soul. At His right hand, we find pleasures that are not fleeting, but forever—anchored in relationship with Him.

    PRAYER
“Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”
    PSALM 16:11
Dear Lord, There are nearly endless places I could run to for comfort and joy. Yet they all turn out to be wells that run dry. However, You, Oh Lord, never cease to refresh me. In Your presence is the fullness of joy. I want to remain beside You all the days of my life, so I can experience the true meaning of heaven. In Jesus’ name, Amen. 🙏🏾

    Proverbs 21:5

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
    PROVERBS 3:5-6

    DEVOTION
    Based on Proverbs 3
These verses call us into complete trust—a surrender of our need to figure everything out. God doesn’t ask for part of our heart, but all of it. Trusting Him means choosing faith even when we don’t understand, even when the path ahead isn’t clear.

Leaning on our own understanding can lead to confusion or fear, but when we acknowledge God in every step, He promises to guide us. He sees the whole journey, and He knows the best way forward. His direction comes as we invite Him into every decision, every plan, and every moment.

Take a moment tonight to surrender your need for control. Breathe out anxiety, and breathe in trust. Let God take the lead—He is faithful to direct your path.
    A.C.T.S. REFLECTION
ADORATION: Praise God for being trustworthy and wise. Worship Him for being a faithful Guide who sees the end from the beginning.

CONFESSION: Reflect on times when you’ve relied on your own understanding instead of seeking His wisdom. Confess any areas where you’ve struggled to trust fully.

THANKSGIVING: Thank God for the times He has guided you, even when you didn’t understand. Express gratitude for His presence on every path.

SUPPLICATION: Father, teach me to trust You with my whole heart. Help me to acknowledge You in all I do. Lead me clearly, and give me the courage to follow wherever You direct.

    PRAYER
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
    PROVERBS 3:5-6
Dear Heavenly Father, Grant me Your wisdom that I may understand Your will and follow it faithfully. Help me to trust You as I move ahead in life by learning to depend on the guidance of Your divine understanding. Guide me, Lord, so that I may stay on the path that is true and right. May my heart always be to Your leading, so that I may move in Your will and purpose. May I never forget that if I trust in You with all my heart, I will not be put to shame and that You will direct my paths. In Jesus’ name, Amen. 🙏🏾

    Your Daily Prayer 🙏🏾 1 Samuel 10:1

Be careful what you ask for because you might just get it.

FRUITS OF THE SPIRIT ACTION: PATIENCE
Encourage someone who is struggling with patience.

Today’s daily devotional is based on the story of The First King of Israel. Saul is anointed as the first king of Israel. He's a strong, handsome, and well-built man who stood a foot taller than every other man in Israel. The people rejoice over finally having a king, yet Samuel had warned them that having a king would not be exactly what they envisioned.
    STORY
Bible in a Year: The First King of Israel: Saul
    Scripture
"As Saul turned to leave Samuel, God changed Saul's heart, and all these signs were fulfilled that day." - 1 Samuel 10:9
You may think you want something. You may beg for it like it’s the only thing that will satisfy you. But God knows better. Sometimes, God gives us exactly what we want and shows us the error of our ways.

Israel asked for a king to replace God. Samuel warned them that a King wouldn’t be good for them, but they didn’t listen. So, God relents and gives them what they want.

Enter Saul. He looks like a king, talks like a king, and fights like a king. But there’s one problem: his heart. We will get to that issue in later episodes.

For now, Saul is just a humble Benjaminite. God chooses him to lead His people despite his initial reluctance and feelings of inadequacy.

Before his anointing, Saul is on a mundane mission to find his father's lost donkeys. Little does he know that his journey will lead to an encounter with the prophet Samuel, who reveals to him God's divine plan for his life.

Samuel anoints Saul with oil, symbolizing God's empowerment and consecration for the task ahead. Immediately, Saul experiences a transformation as the Spirit of the Lord comes upon him, empowering him with new abilities and boldness. This unexpected outpouring of God's Spirit equips Saul for the challenges of kingship.

The Lord will work in Saul’s life, even though the people chose him over God. God sees beyond our limitations and weaknesses, choosing to work through imperfect vessels to accomplish His will.

    REFLECTION
Reflect on moments in your life when you have felt unqualified or inadequate for the challenges before you. Consider how God has equipped you and empowered you to fulfill His purposes. This week, embrace the truth that God doesn't call the qualified but rather qualifies the called. Trust in His provision and leading as you step out in faith to obey His call on your life. Remember, it is God who works in and through us to accomplish His plans, and He will never leave us ill-equipped for the tasks He sets before us.

    PRAYER
Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not because the Lord hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance?
    1 SAMUEL 10:1
God as this new day greats me Thank You for being the God of 24 hours. I thank You that, like Saul, You can send someone into my life to change the trajectory of my future. Guide my feet and my actions so that I will be able to cross paths with designated destiny igniters. I declare that my name is being spoken in rooms I’ve not yet entered into, I thank You that You’ve already prepared my promotion and You know the date of my elevation. Place men and women of God around me that will help guide and teach me the position of influence that I am about to walk in. Enlarge my heart so that I will have a new found passion and love for the calling and assignment You’ve created for me. I declare that I am ready, and even in my weaknesses, I know that I am still covered because I’ve not rejected You as King over my life Lord. So I will arise, I will take the weapons and gifts You’ve given me and take territory for Your Kingdom! I'm ready... Let’s do this God! In Jesus’ Name, Amen. 🙏🏾

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”
    1 CORINTHIANS 10:31

    DEVOTION
    Based on 1 Corinthians 10
This verse reminds us that every part of our lives—big or small—can be an act of worship. From simple tasks like eating and drinking to the decisions we make and the way we treat others, everything we do has the potential to reflect God’s glory.

Living for God’s glory means putting Him at the center of our motives and actions. It’s not about perfection, but about purpose. When we choose to honor Him in our everyday moments, our lives become a testimony of His goodness and grace.

Take a moment tonight to reflect on your day. Breathe out distraction, and breathe in intentionality. Ask God to help you live each moment for His glory, with a heart fully set on Him.

SUPPLICATION: Father, help me to live each moment with You in mind. Whether I work, rest, speak, or serve, let it all point back to You. Teach me to glorify You in everything I do.

    PRAYER
“Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”
    1 CORINTHIANS 10:31
Dear Lord, I know that You care just as much about the why as You do the what. You care about why I do things just as much as what I do. Lord, I pray that You would daily transform my heart so that everything I do, whether it be eating, playing, or working, would be done for Your glory. I want every step I take to honor You. Inform my heart through Your word, and empower me through Your Spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen. 🙏🏾

    2025/04/19
    Your Daily Prayer 🙏🏾 1 Samuel 7:4

Return to The LORD with all your heart.

FRUITS OF THE SPIRIT ACTION: PATIENCE
Be intentional in giving someone extra time and attention today.

Today’s daily devotional is based on the story of Israel’s Return to God. Discover the transformative power of repentance in this story of faith and victory.
    STORY
Bible in a Year: Israel's Return to God
    Scripture
"Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, saying, 'Thus far the Lord has helped us." - 1 Samuel 7:12
True repentance leads to God's deliverance. Return to the Lord with all your hearts.

In this episode of Bible in a Year, we witness the Israelites’ spiritual awakening under the leadership of Samuel. After years of idolatry and neglecting the Lord, they recognize their folly and turn back to Him with sincerity and repentance.

Samuel calls the people to gather at Mizpah, where they fast and confess their sins before God. They pour out water as a symbol of their repentance, signifying the cleansing of their hearts and the renewal of their commitment to the Lord.

Their repentance is not merely outward but stems from a genuine desire to reconcile with God. They understand that true deliverance comes not from their own strength or military might but from the mercy and grace of the Almighty.

In response to their repentance, God intervenes on their behalf. He confounds the Philistines, who come to attack them with thunder, causing them to panic and flee. The Israelites achieved a decisive victory, reclaiming territories that had been lost to their enemies for years.

The victory at Mizpah serves as a powerful reminder of the faithfulness of God to those who earnestly seek Him. When His people return to Him wholeheartedly, He is gracious to forgive and deliver them from their troubles.

    REFLECTION
Reflect on areas in your life where you may have strayed from God's path. Are there sins or idols that you need to confess and forsake? Take time this week to repent before the Lord with sincerity and humility. Trust in His mercy and grace to forgive you and lead you into a renewed relationship with Him. Remember, true victory comes not from our own efforts but from God's intervention in response to our repentant hearts.

    PRAYER
Then the children of Israel did put away Baalim and Ashtaroth, and served the Lord only.
    1 SAMUEL 7:4
Dear Heavenly Father, today is spring cleaning. Today is the day that I am taking inventory of what’s in my heart and if there are any idols that I've allowed to stay. Idols like jealousy, unforgiveness, people pleasing, and spiritual compromise I break at the altar of Your presence. I confess that when I am not in spiritual alignment I lose battles that You’ve already spoken victory over. However, the days of losing battles because of idols are gone! I decree and I declare that my heart only longs for You and Your ways. I declare that I am synced and aligned with Your ways. I will not fall to fear, when the clouds of trials descend upon me I know, like thunder, You will roll through my life and hand victory to me. I declare that all fear, doubt, anxiety, and worry will melt under the hand of the Almighty. I will not look for any other King to rule my life but You! Lead me and guide me to Your desired outcome for my life! In Jesus’ Name, Amen. 🙏🏾
