  • Episode 43 - Ricardo Johnson - Selflessness, Sacrifice, & Success
    2025/04/02

In Episode 43, I sit down with Ricardo Johnson, the head boys basketball coach at Holy Cross High School in Covington, KY. A proud Ohio University alum, Coach Ric takes us through his remarkable life story, beginning with the loss of his father at just 9 years old. While his mother worked tirelessly to take care of the family, he and his brother turned to basketball, spending countless hours at the park and on the court, where they ate, slept, and lived the game.

From his high school days as a star player at Holmes High School to becoming a defensive stopper in college, Ricardo’s basketball journey is defined by growth and resilience. In 2009, he helped lead the Bulldogs to a 9th Region Title AND a KHSAA State Title that had also earned him the highest honor of State MVP.

He shares what it was like experiencing and recovering from a devastating injury to being recruited, playing collegiately and coaching collegiately alongside the likes of some big names like Chris Mack and Chris Holtmann.

These experiences helped shape his coaching philosophy and leadership style. His coaching journey first took him to Panola Junior College in Texas, where he worked as a Volunteer Assistant and supported himself by working at Whataburger, embodying the hard work and determination that has defined his career.

From the Director of Basketball Ops to now the Head Coach at Holy Cross, Coach Ric genuinely inspires and mentors young athletes, passing on the lessons he’s learned through adversity, hard work, and the game of basketball.

This episode is an incredible testament to resilience, sacrifice, the power of mentorship, and the transformative impact of basketball. Whether you're a fan of the game or just in need of inspiration, Coach Johnson’s story is one you don’t want to miss. Love Y'all, Mike

  • Episode 42 - Tarris Horton - Barbering, Bootlegging, Bible-Thumping, & Boundary Pushing
    2025/04/02

Episode 42 presents Tarris Horton, one of the most interesting and unique people I've had the pleasure to meet. Tarris is a man that wears many hats that start off with being a barber that was born of a bootlegger and a bible-thumper.

The Elizabethtown native, who was recently voted in as City Councilman in Dayton, KY, is a multi-talented, bubbly individual that has had his struggles in life too...

When I asked him to describe himself, his response was... "I feel like I'm a Renaissance man, and I haven't found anything that I can't do yet. I've been going full steam ahead, pursuing the things that I’m passionate about ever since I can remember. Whether it’s being involved in politics, playing sports, or actively participating in my community, I strive to bring people together. I believe in learning and teaching, inspiring others to be the best versions of themselves. I want to be someone in the community that people can look at and say, ‘Hey, that dude is a go-getter.’ Everything I do, I want it to reflect my faith and give glory to God. My story is one of true determination, and I credit all my achievements to Him. I’ve faced normal challenges, but I’ve come out stronger on the other side. I ask everyone to continue praying for me, that I may find strength through God in all my endeavors."

Join me for an exciting episode that covers A LOT of stuff... as a matter of fact, here's some of the stuff we cover...

    Tarris' Family History

    Becoming a City Councilman
