  • Helping Your Children Make Wiser Decisions
    2025/05/22

    Send us a text

Are you raising decision-makers or rule-followers? What's the difference?

A decision maker is someone who wisely decides to do the right thing. A rule-follower may stomp his feet and whine, but he does what he's told to do because he believes he has to follow the rules. Wouldn't it be better to want to follow the rules, assuming they are reasonable rules? The bigger question is, which mindset makes for better adulting?

Every choice we make (as kids and adults) leads to a result. We can empower our children and ourselves to think wisely and say, “I choose to complete my work instead of believing 'I have to do this or that."

This "choose to" mindset builds maturity, confidence, and a strong sense of personal responsibility. Whether writing in the summer or helping around the house, why not give your kids the freedom to choose and let natural consequences do the teaching?

Tune in to this week’s episode to learn how to practice this mindset at home in simple, practical ways.

  • Motivation is Overrated
    2025/05/15

In this episode, we’re tackling a powerful truth that can reshape how you and your children approach learning, chores, and personal goals: action creates motivation.

Whether it’s starting a math lesson, folding laundry, or sitting down to write, waiting for motivation can lead to wasted time and missed opportunities.

The simple act of starting (even if you don't finish in your first attempt) activates your brain’s natural reminder system. This psychological principle, known as the Zeigarnik Effect, explains why unfinished tasks linger in our minds and often drive us back to complete them.

As well, I have some real-life examples you’ll relate to as a homeschool mom, along with simple strategies to help your family overcome procrastination and build momentum.

Don’t wait for the “right mood” to tune in and discover why taking the first step is the real secret to staying motivated. Press play! Let's go.

  • Beware of the Tech Trap
    2025/05/08

    Send us a text

In this episode, I dive into the critical topic of educational technology and how it’s impacting our kids’ brains and learning.

You're invited to join me as I share insights from neuroscientist Dr. Jared Horvath, who warns that screen-based learning doesn’t activate the same brain systems as hands-on, real-world experiences.

While useful in moderation, we will reflect on how technology can easily become overused, crowding out the deeper learning that comes through conversation, reflection, and relationship.

If we want our kids to become curious, creative, and capable thinkers, we must stay intentionally involved and not rely on EdTech to become their teachers.

This episode is your encouragement to use tech wisely and keep real connection at the heart of your homeschool.
