  • 035 - Going Viral, Staying Grounded: Kierra King's Story
    2025/04/11

This week's episode is an important one.

We're joined by Kierra King, the woman whose TikTok detailing a racist encounter in a California clinic went viral. While many stood behind her, others dismissed her pain. Some even questioned if it was real, calling it a skit. But it wasn't. It's her real life.

What most people didn't see? After that traumatic moment, Kierra sought care at another facility, only to be failed again. Additionally, a coworker later joked about the incident to her face. The original clinic? They still haven't taken accountability.

As black women, we're constantly expected to stay calm even in the face of dehumanization. Because even if we react with anything less than grace, we're labeled as "angry," "classless," or even "aggressive.." And when things do happen to us, we're gaslit into believing it's somehow our fault.

We're so grateful that Kierra chose to share her story and the aftermath with us. In this episode, she talks about what it's been like navigating overnight fame, the emotional toll of it all and how she's doing the work to heal beyond the viral moment. Kierra is strong, grounded, funny and such a light!
