  • Chris and Christina originally aired a podcast called The Three Levels of Motivation (Season 3 Episode 25 on Feb. 7 airdate). While it was helpful we did receive some feedback that made us think there may be more to the story. That’s the reason for today’s podcast with Rob Schrader.

Here's a review of The Three Levels of Motivation:

    1. Reference: Beyond Weight Loss Documentary by Keith Klein, Certified Clinical Nutritionist
    2. Motivation Types
      1. Level One: Fear Based Motivation. It gets your attention but it’s not lasting. Example: Spouse says you have to stop drinking or they will leave.
      2. Level Two: Feedback Based Motivation. Example: Someone compliments you on weight loss
      3. Level Three: Intrinsic Based Motivation
        1. Definition of intrinsic: innate, inborn, comes from within
        2. Change from having to do something to wanting to do it.
        3. Example: Want to get healthy to be around for future grandchildren.

While all these are good this is where Rob steps in with The Fourth Motivation: Love-based motivation. Every other type previously mentioned is inherently selfish and self-serving. Biblically, the highest form of motivation is other-serving, it's motivated by love for another. Our sin nature is self-serving and our culture is centered around the individual and the self.
