Jeremiah Burroughs (1599-1646) was an English Congregationalist and a well-known Puritan preacher. With his book The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment Burroughs seeks to promote peace among believers of various persuasions, and contentment in the hearts of individual believers. He defines contentment as an inward, quiet submission of the heart, which takes pleasure in God's providence in every situation.

In pursuit of his passion to create artificial life, Cornell University professor, Arthur Maxon travels the remote Pamarung Islands in the East Indies with his daughter and Dr. Carl Von Horn.
