Notes from the author: The following is a short story I wrote in the Elantris world back in January of 2006. There were always a few holes in Elantris where I decided not to include viewpoints or sections of explanation in the name of streamlining, particularly at the end. In the back of my mind, I knew what happened. This story talks about one of those holes; it is meant to be heard after you’ve finished the novel and takes place during the events of the climax.

The alliance of humans and renegade Fhrey is fragile — and about to be tested as never before. Persephone keeps the human clans from turning on one another through her iron will and a compassionate heart. The arrogant Fhrey are barely held in check by their leader, Nyphron, who seeks to advance his own nefarious agenda through a loveless marriage that will result in the betrayal of the person Persephone loves most: Raithe, the God Killer.

After Katmere, I shouldn’t be surprised by anything. Including the existence of a world beyond my world called the Shadow Realm. Yet here I am, stuck in a strange, dangerous place with the worst of the supernaturals, the monster that other monsters fear: Hudson Vega. He’ll obliterate Mars and force Prometheus to make an impossible choice: Save his friend or save his insurrection. Will de Finita bend the knee or watch billions burn alive beneath the AllSeer’s magnificent power? Will Prometheus let his friend die? Or will he abandon everything that what he’s built and risk his own life for someone he once loved?

While Emmy has been focused on dealing with supernatural threats from the outside world, a much bigger problem has been brewing at home, leading to an epic confrontation that will alter the fate of the entirety of Harrow County!
