in the bible God told David that his son Solomon would build the house of God. God describes Solomon as a “man of rest.”
There is an interesting contrast between David and his son Solomon and correlation between Jesus and the Church.
David is described as a man of blood, a man of war.
Solomon is described as a man of rest, a man of peace.
Jesus fought a different kind of war than David. Jesus’ war was aimed at bigger enemies than David’s, even though David took down lgiants, Jesus took down bigger giants. David’s battles were carnal, against Philistine giants, and foreign hostile countries. Jesus’ fought the enemy giants that plagued all of humanity, sin, death, and devils.
Even though it was in David’s heart to build God a house, God tells him that his son Solomon would build the house. David had fought to many battles and shed too much blood. God wanted the builder of his house to be a man of rest, a person of peace. The name Solomon means peace and quietness.
David fought battles and supplied great abundance in the kingdom for Solomon to receive by inheritance.
David provided for Solomon to inherit, abundance of gold, silver, bronze, iron, cedar, cypress, onyx, and precious stones. Not only does David provide abundance of material, he supplies Solomon with all of the workers and craftsman. (1 Chron 22)
Solomon’s life is based around receiving the inheritance from his father David. His life is marked by beauty, peace, & rest.
Not only does God choose a “man of rest” Solomon to build the house, the temple of God is described as a “house of rest” in 1 Chron 28.
Solomon the man of rest, declares in Psalm 127, “unless the Lord builds the house the laborers labor in vain.”
Jesus left a great inheritance for the Church. Way greater and more abundant than what David left Solomon.
The church inherited a victory, a vast abundance, and our lives are marked by receiving from Jesus’ finished victory on the cross.
“in him we have obtained an inheritance.” Ephesians 1:11
We are God’s people of rest, we are God’s temple, God’s house of rest. Are lives are marked by way more beauty, peace, and rest than Solomons.
Rest receives wisdom.
Peace receives grace.
Wisdom comes with riches, possessions, and honor. 2 Chronicles 1:12
