  • Ep. 2 of Echoes from the Edge: Voices on the Margin

    Join #beyondFLG for a special series titled Echoes from the Edge: Voices on the Margin. This series will explore in detail the actual lived experiences of immigrants in northern AZ and the individuals that help them navigate the pathway to documented status including Northern Arizona Legal Services director, Grace Vaughan, and immigration attorney, Kelly Rowe. Additionally, Chip Thomas, local artist/activist, offers some insight into experiences documenting borderlands and immigration.


    In today’s episode, we are joined by an individual that moved to Flagstaff, AZ as a young child and spent his early life connecting with friends and community in Flagstaff. Listen in as he describes those connections, his deep connection to his family, his experiences maneuvering a career as an artist, and the underlying worry that comes with his immigrant status. Our impression is that our guest and his focus on family has motivated him to create opportunities that he sometimes worries about being taken from him. His love for his family and connection to the community are cornerstones in his life.

    In today’s episode, we are joined by an individual that moved to Flagstaff, AZ as a young child as her mother attempted to escape threats to the family. Listen in as she describes her early life connections to Flagstaff, her struggles with identity, including her immigrant history, the complexities in considering educational and career options, and the difficulties she and her family has faced in maneuvering the legal process in seeking documented status.

    She references her family throughout the episode, including her brother and his name has been removed to protect their identity. Of note, this individual makes reference to suicide in the latter half of the episode.   • Episode 031: Kelly Teeselink (Girls on the Run Northern Arizona)

    Join David Spade and Chris Farley (aka Cody and Dan) as they go #beyondFLG with Kelly Teeselink, the Council Director at Girls on the Run of Northern Arizona. Kelly Teeselink is Council Director of Girls on the Run of Northern Arizona and has been involved with Girls on the Run since 2012, starting as a volunteer coach in her hometown of Iowa City, Iowa. Previously, she served as executive director of Girls on the Run of Eastern Iowa before making Flagstaff her home. Before becoming executive director of GOTREI, she held positions in community relations, marketing, and communications in both higher ed and nonprofit sectors.

    Kelly is an avid trail runner, training for and racing 50ks, 50-milers, and 100-milers across the country. She began running at age 23 using the Couch to 5k program and discovered that running taught her she was more than a number on a scale and that her body could do some pretty incredible things. She is thrilled to be able to share this message with others and through Girls on the Run.

    In this episode, Kelly talks about Girls on the Run being built around fostering confidence in young girls, finding running as a resource for her own well-being, and ultimately her moving to Flagstaff and developing connection with others and the natural landscape.

  • Episode 030: Eva Putzova (Catch Fire Movement)

    Join K Dot and ScHoolboy Q (aka Cody and Dan) as they go #beyondFLG with cross-functional, impact driven Eva Putzova. Eva Putzova, an accidental American born and raised in Slovakia, served on the Flagstaff City Council and ran for Congress in 2020. She co-founded Catch Fire Movement, an organization dedicated to building progressive leadership and democracy from the bottom up.


    Locally, she is known as the architect of the Flagstaff Minimum Wage Citizen Initiative, which voters successfully passed in 2016. She also authored the Restaurant Workers Bill of Rights, first introduced as a resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2022 by Representatives Rashida Tlaib, Jesús "Chuy" Garcia, and Marie Newman.


    Eva continues to “meddle” in politics because she believes we need more serious people with political courage who are unbossed and unbought to stand up for working-class folks and human rights.

  • Episode 028: Kathleen Ventura (Compost Crowd)

    Join Alex and Franky Venegas, known as Flyysoulja and Kodiyakredd respectively, and known collectively as the Island Boys (aka Dan and Cody) as they go #beyondFLG with Kathleen Ventura. She is the co-owner of Compost Crowd, an award-winning compost collection service right here in Northern Arizona. She and her husband, Brock Delinski, offer residential, commercial and event food scraps collection in both Flagstaff and Sedona. Their objective is to keep organic matter out of the landfill, engage the community in this diversion, and return the nutrients to the soil at local farms. Kathleen is an avid environmentalist and was just named Arizona’s Green Leader by Green Living Magazine. Compost Crowd was also named Arizona's Best Eco-Friendly Service for Your Home, Best Arizona Company Doing Good for the Planet, and Arizona's Best Eco-Friendly Small Business.

    When Kathleen isn’t elbows deep in food scraps and bucket washing, she can be found making vegan food and hosting themed dinner parties, camping in the backcountry or chilling in her refurbished 1994 camper, walking 20,000 steps/day with her rescue dog, or thrifting for gently-used fashion fits.
