  • Leopold and Loeb Part One- Mansplaining Birds
    2024/12/17

This week we are our toes back in the true crime pond with the wild story of Leapold and Loeb. These two young men were both insanely wealthy and very smart. Both skipped a few grades in school and must have missed the classes where they learned to empathize with the people around them.

Nathan Leapold was obsessed with the concept of superiority and believed that because he was smart and rich he could do no wrong. And Richard Loeb's dream was to commit the perfect crime. But spoiler alert their attempt was far from perfect and they were caught almost immediately.

This episode we talk about their childhood and the build up to the murder of a 14 year old child named Bobby Franks. Then we discuss how their "Perfect Plan" crumbled and led to their arrest.

  • Triangle Shirtwaist Fire Part 1- Sweatshops and Crooked Cops
    2024/12/03

This week, Danny is talking about the Triangle Shirtwaist fire. One of the deadliest workplace fires in US history. A story about the criminal exploitation of Immigrant Labor. Deeply Flawed Fire Control systems. And employers that put their profits far above worker safety.

We begin with garment manufacturing's early history and the use of Tenement sweatshops. The early garment industry fed on and took advantage of a stream of new immigrants fleeing Europe in the millions.

We talk about the growth of the labor movement and the Shirtwaist strike of 1909. And then get into what made the Triangle factory so dangerous and prone to disaster.
