The war to find peace is an ongoing battle, it is a search that this world is constantly after. The world thinks peace comes from our inner life, but what does Christ say? As we carry on in our Radiant series, we will hear about how Jesus’ incarnation brings us peace. Life is unpredictable, we face loss and pain, at times it can feel like we are constantly being tossed in the waves of distress. So, how do we come up for air and find peace? Clinging to the faithfulness and certainty of Gods promises through these times, can serve as an anchor for our souls. As we wait for Jesus’ return, where He will eradicate war, pain, and loss, we should rejoice, pray, and serve in the meantime. The coming of Christ ultimately brings the death of war. We can press on with the hope that Jesus promises peace through the Holy Spirit, and we can live with intention in the meantime. We are promised transformation and freedom in Christ when we turn from our sinful ways. The light of Jesus is undeniable, it permeates every part of our lives and has the power to bring us out of depths of gloom. Join us this Christmas season as we jump into a new series. Who are you sharing the Gospel with in your everyday life? Maybe you are more reserved when it comes to spreading the love of Christ or maybe it's something that comes naturally to you, either way scripture tells us about the joy it brings to communities when it is shared. This Sunday, we will hear from Pastor Chris about sharing the joy of the Gospel. In the church, it's important for us to have leaders who teach the Gospel and members who take the Gospel and to share it with neighbors who need the Gospel. Last week we talked about how we tend to revert to our old passions and desires and indulge in our flesh. And the way to combat that is to walk with the spirit and bear the fruit of Jesus Christ. This week we are finishing our study through the book of Galatians, learning the Good News of Christ and the freedom found in salvation through Jesus. In the final chapter, Paul addresses the church urging them to keep each other accountable and to bear one another's burdens. As we strive to walk in the Gospel we must keep in step with God's spirit. We can do this by immersing ourselves in Christ-centered community and freedom. God gave us the gift of fellowship; we have each other to lean on and to have accountability as we walk in the light of God's spirit. How do we walk with the Spirit? Is it as simple as walking and the Spirit joins us? In a way, it is as simple as that, but if we want to live lives liberated from the law and walk in the freedom of Christ, there are a few other steps we have to take. Today we continue in our message series in Galatians, Good News, diving into what it means to be free in Christ. Before we come to know Christ, we long to gratify our desires, our flesh. We live with internal passions to be fulfilled; every time we fulfill them, they grow. Once we have come to know Jesus and accepted Him as our Savior, we learn that those in Christ have crucified their flesh along with their passions and desires. Yet, we still may experience these desires from our old life. So, as we learn to walk with the Spirit, Jesus points out a few steps we should take as we walk alongside Him. We must recognize that we have an inner struggle that goes towards fulfilling our flesh, we should acknowledge the fruit that is growing in our life and put our flesh to death in Christ Jesus. When we walk with the Spirit and crucify our flesh, we will see godly attributes growing in our lives like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Have you found yourself reverting back to old habits and places of comfortability? Often this reversion happens because of our innate sin nature pushing us back into our old ways--but when we are in Christ we are called to freedom. Maybe you fall into the state of mind that you can be sufficient on your own and do it all on your own, Jesus deeply desires us to reject this thinking and stand firm in His freedom for us—the freedom of the Gospel. We are continuing in our Galatians series, Good News, studying the freedom from the law and security found in the Gospel. When we find ourselves going back to our old ways, habits, or sins, it's as if we are re-enslaving ourselves to the law and forfeiting our liberty in Jesus. Paul shows us that we lose the benefits of Christ, the scandal of the cross, and the motivation to love when we revert to the law and believe the lie that we can do it all on our own efforts. In some ways freedom is scary, we can find comfort in thinking that our faith is based on works, but Jesus is desiring us to know in deep ways that our faith is based solely by believing in the Gospel and accepting Christ as our Savior. Jesus saved us by grace alone, despite our flaws and shortcomings, He loves us deeply. We would be foolish to go back to the law and abandon a gracious Gospel and loving Father.
