    If you have ever known devastating loss, a grief that you didn’t know how you’d ever get past – then Daniel is your book. Daniel was just a young man when he was led into Babylonian exile. 90% of Judah was killed in this time, so in a sense, Daniel was one of the “lucky ones.” As we’ll see this week, Daniel lost not only his past and his present life, but also much of his future on earth was taken from him as well. These are all of the earthly conditions. These are the human concerns. The book of Daniel is about what God will do in the midst of them. Join us this Sunday as we see God show up in the life of Daniel and his friends and they cope with their grief.     The unearned freedom, flourishing, and favor of God is not only endlessly enjoyed in Christ, but graciously extended through His Spirit-filled Church. As Christians, we can struggle to remember that God’s grace towards us doesn’t end with us. God has given us the gift of extending His grace to those around us. Enjoying the jubilee of knowing, and being known by Christ, compels us to love those who we might not naturally be drawn to. Jesus challenges our hearts which often desire to build our own kingdom, instead of laboring with God in growing His kingdom. Luke 4 is a beautiful reminder of the gift we have extending the grace we’ve received to those in need. -Michael TenBarge

This Mother’s Day we give thanks for the women who have been instrumental in the growth of the Christian faith, for the women in our own lives who nurtured our understanding and poured into us, and for the ways Christ elevated women and gave them a voice during His time on earth and ever since. This Sunday we will be focusing in on the story of Hannah from 1 Samuel. In Hannah I see the kind of unwavering faith and persistence that defines the women of faith that I have learned and benefitted from.     It is around 587 B.C. and the Babylonians are storming Judah in all directions – destroying, murdering, and deporting the Jews from their land, the land that God gave them! What will happen to the faithful remnant? Why is God allowing the faithful to suffer with the sinners? How can a God who hates evil allow evil to come upon Judah and Jerusalem, his sacred city. Habakkuk seems to stand before God with his arms crossed and says, “God, I am waiting for an answer.” And God says I will give you an answer and you will not believe it. God is using Babylon as an instrument of judgment and ALL people – whether faithful or not – will be judged. God says to the righteous that you must live by faith! I will bring good where you see evil. Your perseverance and your waiting will glorify God, refine your faith, and ultimately lead to your salvation. Knowing this, the faithful must live through judgment rejoicing in their God and Savior, and leaning on the strength of their sovereign Lord. This is our future and this is our hope.     The prophet Micah speaks to us out of his own humble beginnings. Micah was from Moresheth, a small village in Southwest Judah. As he grew up he was a witness to the greed, excess, and corruption of the privileged classes. But it was not just the sinfulness of the people that Micah confronts – he confronts their worship. More so than other prophets, Micah asks the question, “What does God truly want from us?” Micah boldly confronts the worship of his fellow Hebrews who worship God with “hands full of blood” and “sins like scarlet.” We cannot worship God and remain silent about the needs of the world around us. Worship is meant to nurture the people of God. Then we can become a people of peace, a people of commitment. Join us as we explore this beautiful and timeless book together. -Pastor Nate Roschen

    The Resurrection & The Life – Easter

    Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die…” – John 11:25 Throughout the course of the year great emphasis is placed on the cross, and rightly so. The cross of Christ is a powerful symbol for us of the love and forgiveness of God. We cannot know who God is apart from the cross. It reminds us of the cost of our sinfulness, and God’s goodness in that He is willing to pay the cost Himself. Often, the resurrection is kept at a simmer on the backburner of our spiritual lives. I believe this happens for a few reasons, it is often overshadowed by the cross and the power of that symbol. But it is also harder for us to get a handle on. If the cross is the payment of God’s love, then the resurrection is the proof of God’s power. Join us this Easter Sunday as we explore this great gift – that still changes us, and still changes our world! -Pastor Nate Roschen
