Lisa Harding, former actress and playwright, is the author of the wildly success novel "Bright Burning Things".

The story follows a single mother who struggles with addiction and risks losing her young son if she isn't able to turn her life around.

I talk with Lisa about the very real challenges and vulnerabilities that are exposed for those dealing with addiction and mental health.

Lisa has recently release her new novel, "The Wildelings" which is available in bookstores now.

Lisa Genova, is the New York Times bestselling author of "More or Less Maddy", a novel that details a young woman's journey in navigating her diagnosis of bi-polar disorder.

Lisa holds a degree in biopsychology and a PhD in neuroscience from Harvard University.

In this episode I chat with Lisa about her extensive academic background and process for writing "More or Less Maddy" from the perspective of the main character, Maddy.

We also discuss what it means for mental illness to be understood as a community and the importance of reducing fear and stigma.
