Four Red Hawks finished in double digits propelling Cass City past the USA Patriots in the opening round of the MHSAA Tournament, defeating Unionville-Sebewaing 67-57 on Monday, February 24, 2025.
USA began with a 6-2 in the first three minutes of the game, but that's when Cass City's offense was awakened, outscoring the Patriots 9-5 for the remainder of the first quarter to lead 12-11. The Red Hawks would extend that lead to four points at halftime, 28-24 thanks in part to Trent Patrick scoring seven of his 13 points in the second quarter. USA's Justin Jacobs scored eight of the the team's 13 points in the second.
The third quarter was more of the same for Cass City, outpacing USA 22-18 to extend their lead to eight points entering the fourth quarter, 50-42. The Red, White & Blue of USA would attempt multiple comebacks, but were fended off by Cass City's hot shooting in the second half, connecting on 58% of their shots, including going 4-8 behind the arc. Griffin Weiler, a junior Red Hawk would score 11 points in the fourth quarter to secure their first postseason victory for 2025.
District 95 featured five teams to start the week: Harbor Beach, Bad Axe, Lakers, Cass City and USA.
