このコンテンツについて
On June 6, in the South Lynnhaven Road area, officers made a DUI arrest following a fatal crash. The incident involved a single vehicle and resulted in the loss of life. The arrested individual is facing charges related to driving under the influence. The case remains under review.
On June 12, a shooting occurred in the Sullivan Circle neighborhood. Police responded to reports of gunfire and located one victim with non-life-threatening injuries. An arrest was made following an initial investigation. The case is ongoing but an individual is in custody.
Throughout the week, officers addressed several reports of alleged property crimes, including burglaries and thefts in the Kempsville and Town Center areas. In the Kempsville neighborhood, the department is investigating an alleged residential burglary reported by a homeowner returning after an absence, with items reported missing. No arrests have been made and the case remains under investigation.
Near Town Center, police received multiple complaints regarding alleged thefts from vehicles parked in commercial lots. In each instance, items of value were reportedly taken from unlocked vehicles overnight. These investigations are ongoing and police encourage residents to secure their vehicles.
Police also responded to several calls related to non-permitted large events planned for the upcoming week along the Oceanfront and surrounding neighborhoods. Officers contacted event organizers to warn of the requirement for proper city permits for public gatherings. When organizers failed to comply, police publicly announced cancellation of these events and stated they will pursue legal remedies to recover costs associated with supplemental patrols and city services. No arrests were made in connection with these planned events. Police continue to monitor for unpermitted gatherings and ask the public to report suspicious activity.
No significant violent crime trends were identified during this period, but property crimes involving thefts from vehicles remain a concern in commercial parking areas. Police urge residents to report suspicious behavior and submit tips by calling Virginia Beach Crime Solvers at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP. For emergencies, dial 911.
