How to Worship the Earth When It’s Trying to Kill You – Part 2: Down Under with Julie Brett ---

In this delightfully grounded and slightly unhinged second part of our elemental series, the Three Witches and a Druid take a mental journey to the Southern Hemisphere to chat with Julie Brett — Druid, author, teacher, and all-around Earth-loving badass based in the wilds of Australia. All without leaving our favorite recording location... the fire pit in Druid Brian's yard!

Julie helps us navigate what it really means to follow a nature-based spiritual path in a land where the rivers are sacred, the sun can scorch your soul, and the wildlife is actively trying to murder you.
    We explore:

🌿 The unique topography of Australia and how it shapes ritual and seasonal practice.
🔥 The devastating fires of recent years and what they’ve taught us about grief, renewal, and climate resilience.
🌊 Sacred waters, drought, and the living memory of the land.
🌪️ Cyclones, climate change, and the global Pagan experience of a shifting Wheel of the Year.
🐍 And yes — snakes, spiders, and spiritual presence in the middle of it all.

Julie also shares her experience on how modern Druidry can root itself meaningfully in the Australian landscape — with deep respect for Indigenous culture and Country.

This episode is for anyone trying to stay spiritually grounded when the world feels like it’s on fire — literally or metaphorically.

  • SE 05 - EP 117 Pagan Community Building
    2025/07/04

Pagan Community Building (…or is the Druid secretly starting a cult?)

This week on Three Witches and a Druid, the gang kicks things off in their now-iconic meeting spot: our wise Druid’s backyard—home to birdsong, dappled sunlight, and a feral patch of Japanese knotweed that might just be plotting world domination. Annoying? Yes. Edible? Also yes. Turns out, in a post-apocalyptic snack emergency, we might all be chewing knotweed and pretending it's kale.

From there, things take a deliciously unhinged turn as the hosts dive into one of their favourite long-running fantasies: building the ultimate pagan community. We’re talking full-on witchy commune energy—sacred fires, gardens overflowing with herbs, shared meals, moon rituals, maybe a goat or 7… the works. And of course, chaos ensues in the best way.

They dish on everything from apocalypse gardening tips to the logistics of communal living, throw shade at zoning laws, and even casually mention the Diefenbunker because why wouldn’t you want your coven to have a Cold War-era hideout?

    Expect:

    🌿 Big ideas, bigger laughs

🏕️ Pagan utopia planning (with zero HOA drama)

😂 Debates about goat ownership and composting toilets

🏡 The dream of shared pagan housing and land stewardship💬 And a very important question: how do you define a cult?

🥴 The slippery slope from “earth-centred commune” to “oops, now we’re on a watchlist”This episode is for every witch, druid, or magical misfit who’s ever looked around at late-stage capitalism and thought, “You know what? I’d rather live in the woods with my weird friends and make jam.”

    CALL TO ACTION:

Got a fantasy commune layout on your Pinterest board? Secretly Googled “buy an island with my coven”? Slide into our DMs or send a message on FB and spill the tea. The hosts want to hear your wildest (or most practical) visions for a real-life pagan community.

  • SE 05 - EP116: Summer Solstice
    2025/06/20

The Wheel turns again, and the witches are outdoors, which can only mean one thing: Litha has arrived!

In this delightfully sun-soaked episode, the Three Witches— Maeve, Margo, and Gwen — drag their lawn chairs into Druid Brian’s backyard to soak up the solstice (and maybe a bit of wine) all while diving deep into the longest day of the year.

Surrounded by the scent of wildflowers, the hum of bees, and perhaps... just a whisper of fae mischief in the breeze.

In this episode, the gang is asking some real questions.

What happens in lands where sunlight barely kisses the earth or refuses to sleep at all? Do the sabbats take on new shapes in those corners of the world?

The conversation weaves through myth and mystery as they explore how place and practice intertwine. From the age-old tale of the Holly King and the Oak King, to delicious summer offerings and rituals soaked in sunlight and strawberry juice.

And yes… Brian may or may not call out the gang for sounding like “four old white folks complaining about the weather.” He’s not wrong but let’s be real, Canadian solstice can mean anything from sunburns to frozen cloaks.

Here’s what we’re conjuring up this week:

🌀 The Sun Stands Still – What actually happens on solstice (besides us dramatically lying in the grass like woodland nymphs)?

🌍 Global Witch Problems – How do you do a solstice ritual when the sun never sets… or never shows up?

🔥 Fire, Feast, and Frolicking – Summer solstice traditions from bonfires to berry pies to naked forest dancing (don’t ask who did what).

🌲 The Holly King vs. The Oak King – The ultimate seasonal face-off. Who’s hot right now? Spoiler: It’s not the one with the fur cloak.

With laughter, lore, and a little leafy chaos, this episode is a sun-drenched spell of celebration. Whether you're crafting flower crowns, lighting a fire, or whispering wishes into the wind, this one will spark your solstice spirit.

🔮🌿 So light a candle, pour a glass of something golden, and join us as we welcome the Oak King's rise and the lush magic of summer.

  • SE 05 - EP 115 : Book Of Prayer
    2025/06/06

In this cozy-chaotic catch-up episode, the witches are back around the ole coffee table with stories, laughter, and a sprinkle of new magic! First up, Mauve shares her enchanting new adventure:

Have Cauldron, Will Travel — a roving ritual roadshow bringing sabbats and community magic to witches across Nova Scotia. Think: pop-up circles, moonlit gatherings, and a sabbath rituals with serious main character energy. All aligned with engaging the magical community all across the province and maybe farther to help out where needed.

But the real heart of this episode?

A deep, soul-stirring (and occasionally giggle-filled) discussion about our next big project: A community-crafted Pagan Book of Prayers.

We're dreaming of a beautiful, ever-growing collection of words woven with intention and magic — a book you can turn to when you need grounding, guidance, or a goddess-powered pep talk.

Morning offerings, evening gratitude's, prayers to the Moon, charms for strength, rites of passage, seasonal invocations, or those little whispered wishes you say when lighting a candle — we want them all.

This isn't about perfection or high poetry (though we love both). It's about authenticity. About creating something sacred and accessible. About capturing the beating heart of modern pagan practice, one prayer at a time.

✨ We’re officially putting out a call to action:

Send us your original prayers, chants, blessings, rituals, and witchy words. Whether it's for Samhain or sunrise, grief or joy, big life shifts or daily devotion — your voice belongs in this.

So grab your quills, typewriters, or enchanted iPhones — and let’s co-create something powerful, personal, and oh-so-magical.

Blessed be, and happy listening. 💜🔥📖

  • SE 05 EP 114 - Ethical Sourcing in a Modern Pagan Practice
    2025/05/23

“Where Did That Wand Come From?” – Ethical Sourcing in Modern Pagan Practice

This week, your favourite coven of conversationalists—Margo, Maeve, Gwen, and Brian—gather 'round the mic to stir the cauldron on a vital topic in today’s magical landscape: Ethical sourcing.

Have you ever stopped to wonder where your cloak came from? That gorgeous crystal on your altar? That intricately carved wand that showed up two days after a Temu impulse-buy binge?

Sure, your altar looks fabulous… but do you know where that wand came from?
Was your cloak stitched with care, - or churned out by a fast-fashion goblin via "fast fashion" express?
And let’s not even start on those suspiciously cheap amethyst towers...

✨ In this episode, we ask the hard questions:

    • Can a tool hold power if it was made under exploitative conditions?
    • Why do so many of us hold our magical tools to higher sourcing standards than the smartphones in our pockets?
    • Is energy affected by intention alone, or does the origin of an item matter?
    • Can thrifted finds and antique market treasures hold new life in our practice if they’re cleansed and consecrated properly?
    • Will your ritual fall flat if your cauldron was ... um, “liberated” from grandma’s attic without permission?

We also deep-dive into witchy thrifting, DIY, and the powerful magic in homemade tools—all while exploring the ethical and energetic implications of the items we bring into our sacred spaces.

So grab your ethically-sourced tea, light that responsibly-harvested sage (or maybe reach for rosemary instead? ), and join us for a lively chat that’s equal parts thought-provoking and enchantingly practical.

💬 Got thoughts or stories about your own ethically-sourced (or not-so-ethical) magical tools? Drop us a message on Instagram or wherever you listen—we’d love to hear from you!

  • SE 05 - EP 113 - Wild Women
    2025/05/09

The cauldron is bubbling, the conversation is flowing, and the peach cider is definitely enchanted. Join Maeve, Margo, Gwen (your resident witches), and Brian (our wise druid) as they gather once more around their famously magical coffee table to explore the wild, wonderful world of women in paganism.

This week’s episode is a deep as our favourite hosts take a wild ride through the thickets of women in paganism—.

From the early days of feminist witchcraft to today’s more gender-inclusive circles, we explore the energy that draws people into the Craft. Is it the divine feminine? The call of the wild? Or maybe just the aesthetic?

(Let’s be honest—flowy robes and candles are a crowd pleaser... )

🔥 Topics stirred in the cauldron include:

    • Was modern paganism built on the backs of the women’s power movement?
    • Why so many women feel called to the Craft (and why the cauldron’s now bubbling with more masculine energy too!)
    • Is the spiritual pull about energy, archetypes, or just damn good incense?
    • The evolution of gender roles in pagan spaces—divine feminine, sacred masculine, and everything in between.

🕯️ And because no good witchy chat exists in a vacuum, we touch on how gender roles and divine archetypes are handled in other religions too—from Christianity to Eastern philosophies, and everything in between.

Expect a few cackles, a couple of side-eyes at patriarchy, and—of course—a spirited conversation about how the lines between gender, power, and spirituality are being redrawn with every solstice, full moon, and drum circle.

So, whether you walk with wolves, dance with Dionysus, or just really like herbs and candles—this one’s for the wild in all of us. 🖤🌕

✨ Pour a cup of something strong and hit play, witches. The coven is in session.

  • SE 05 EP 112 - Paganism & Clergy
    2025/04/25

This week, it’s Margo, Gwen, Maeve, and Brian— yes, the usual suspects— gathered ‘round our well-loved, wax-stained, definitely-seen-some-things coffee table.

We’ve got candles burning, notebooks open, and a tasty little black cherry cider from BC on the side (because we’re fancy like that).

But tonight’s topic? Oh, just a little something light and breezy like... Paganism and Clergy.
    Yep—we’re going there.Paganism and Clergy.

Let’s be real: it’s not something you hear about every day in the wider world, but in our communities, it’s a conversation that’s long overdue.

    We’re asking the big stuff:

    🕯️ What is "clergy" , Pagan-style?
🕯️ Do we need it, or are we all just DIY priests and priestesses anyway?
🕯️ Who gets to say they’re clergy, and is there a secret Pagan paperwork club no one told us about?
🕯️ Most importantly, what does this look like in practice? From hospital visits and end-of-life care to handfastings and community rituals… does having a go-to spiritual person make a difference?

We’re getting into it with all the honesty, sass, and side-eye you’d expect. No gatekeeping, no fluff—just a real convo about leadership, service, and support in our modern Pagan lives.

✨ CALL TO ACTION: Okay, your turn.
Have you ever worked with clergy in a Pagan context, or been one? Do you think formal roles help or hurt the path? Got a spicy take on who gets to call themselves a High Priestess?
    We wanna hear it!
Drop us a message, leave a comment, howl at the moon—whatever works. What do you think?
