Ministry distributes Bibles in Ukraine Reported by the Christian Post, a ministry based in Texas is printing and distributing Bibles and other gospel-centered materials through a vast network of churches and Christian organizations to Eastern Europe. The organization is the Eastern European Mission, or the EEM. This year, the EEM had a goal to distribute 970,000 Bibles and other Christian-based materials in over 30 countries in total and in 20 different languages. This includes the war-torn country of Ukraine. In fact, requests for materials have increased. Vice President of the EEM, Dirk Smith, says, “God uses evil, and this war is definitely not from a good place…” However, nonbelievers are looking at the believers and wanting to know how they are handling these terrible circumstances. By Jonathan Clark Pew Research on Religious Liberty Pew Research released a report last week entitled, “Government Restrictions on Religion Stayed at Peak Levels Globally in 2022.” Governments and social actors harassed religious groups in 192 out of the world's 198 countries and territories in 2022. Christians were the most harassed religious group, facing persecution in 166 countries. China ranked as the worst country for government restrictions on religion, while India ranked as the worst country for social hostilities. The worst countries in both categories were Afghanistan, Egypt, Iraq, Pakistan and Syria. Even the United States was among 110 countries where some level of government intimidated religious groups. Armed men killed 14 Christians in Nigeria on Sunday. The believers had just celebrated a Christmas carol service at the Evangelical Church Winning All. In Vietnam, officials arrested Christian villagers over the weekend for getting ready to celebrate Christmas. Authorities had told Christians they would face arrest if they celebrated Christmas or attended non-sanctioned churches. And yesterday, officials in Nepal arrested a pastor just for giving gifts. National Association of Realtors Attacks Free Speech The US National Association of Realtors has slammed a Christian realtor in Virginia for his stance taken for the cause of righteousness. Wilson Fauber was declared guilty by the NAR ethics panel for “harassing speech” and “hate speech.” Fauber’s social media posts espoused traditional Christian views on marriage and sexuality. He shared comments from Franklin Graham and other Christian leaders online. Attack on a Christmas market in Germany Fox News reported on Friday that a festive Christmas market in Eastern Germany erupted into chaos when a car was driven into a group of people in the city of Magdeburg. Between 60 and 80 people have been injured and at the time of this report 2 had been killed including a child. The Associated Press reports that the suspect is a 50 year old Saudi doctor who came to Germany back in 2006. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said, ‘My thoughts are with the victims and their families. We stand by their side and by the side of the people of Magdeburg.’ Pray for all of the people involved that God will bring comfort and peace in this tragic time. Texas Schools Removing the Bible from Libraries The head of a Texas school district says the Bible had to be removed from school libraries because of a new state law prohibiting explicit books. The Christian Post reports that Canyon Independent School District Superintendent Darryle Flusche announced in an email earlier this week that, under House Bill 900, which was passed by the Texas Legislature in 2023, parts of the Holy Bible are deemed unsuitable. House Bill 900 was passed for the purpose of protecting schools from sexually explicit or vulgar content. In an email to parents, Flusche stated the full text of the Bible had been removed because it was categorized under this mandate, even though portions of the Bible will remain available. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Vietnamese pastors attacked by Communists In recent months, masked attackers shot two pastors in Vietnam’s Central Highlands. 62-year-old Pastor Y Hung Ayun and 57-year-old Pastor Y Pho Eban lead independent house churches. They are not registered with the communist government. Because of this, they often face harassment from officials. Thankfully, the attacks were not fatal. However, gunmen left Pastor Eban unable to walk. In Pastor Ayun’s case, the attackers used rubber bullets which caused severe damage to his legs. Please pray for the church in Vietnam. The country is ranked 35th on the Open Doors’ World Watch List of nations where it is most difficult to be a Christian. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Violence against Mexican Catholics and Evangelicals rises A report by the Catholic Multimedia Centre found violence against Christians in Mexico has reached a “peak.” Nearly 900 religious leaders faced extortion or threats between 2018 and 2024. Twenty-six religious buildings were attacked, and 10 priests and a seminary student were murdered over the time period. Evangelicals have also faced persecution in Mexico. Authorities forcibly displaced over 150 Christians in Mexico’s Hidalgo state earlier this year.
