    What happens when your meticulously planned race weekend turns into a series of unpredictable challenges? Join me as I recount the rollercoaster that was my Ironman Chattanooga 2024 journey. From a grueling 13-hour drive with unexpected car troubles to the surprise cancellation of the swim, which threw another wrench into the works. With the help of AAA, some reflective moments in a Virginia hotel, and the camaraderie of fellow athletes, I managed to stay focused and determined to tackle the race.

    As I arrived in Chattanooga, with my family by my side, my attention shifted to setting and achieving the race day goals. I reveal the mental strategies and preparation techniques I used to stay motivated and energized despite the setbacks. Visualization, breath work, and a carbohydrate-loading technique known as glycogen super-compensation all played crucial roles in my pre-race routine, along with the empowering boost I got from motivational speakers in my headphones. These tactics helped me connect with my inner warrior and push through the race with resilience and tenacity.

    During the race itself, the strategic execution of nutrition, hydration, and transition tactics was vital. A meticulously planned blend of nutrients, along with an efficient hydration system, kept my energy levels steady. The emotional high of crossing the finish line, despite the rain and challenging hills, was an unforgettable moment of triumph. The support of the crowd and my family spurred me on to my fastest mile of the day.     In this episode, I’m reflecting on my journey from marathon enthusiast to Ironman finisher, with Ironman Chattanooga 2024 now in the books. It all started with a spark of inspiration from a friend and my passion for marathons, which led me into the world of triathlons. What began as a 'maybe someday' turned into a full-on commitment, and now, after crossing the finish line in Chattanooga, I’m taking a step back to share the highs, lows, and everything in between.

    I’ll talk about the lessons I learned—how I built my training plan, embraced periodization, and mentally prepped for the big day. But just as important were the challenges, like learning to balance training demands with life’s curveballs and being okay with not always perfecting it. One thing that hit home was the need to listen to my body and know the difference between real fatigue and when I just needed a mental reset. And let’s not forget about nutrition—the 'fourth discipline' that played a huge role in keeping me fueled and ready to perform.

    Looking back, this journey wasn’t just about completing a race. It was about growth. Pushing myself through the hard days, sticking to goals that mattered, and embracing the experience helped me evolve in ways that went far beyond race day. And speaking of race day, there’s just something unforgettable about the energy, the people, and the atmosphere that made it all worth it.
