  • A Meditation for the New Year
    2024/12/20

This is my final episode for the year so I wanted to wish you a Happy New Year and leave you with a gift.

This week’s podcast episode is a meditation I created to invite you to look back upon this year, consider its challenges and gifts and be grateful for it all. Regardless of the content of your experiences.

It has all been for your growth, for your learning, even the parts you didn’t like or didn’t want. Even the parts that caused you pain. See if you can hold them as gifts, and in time, you will receive the lessons they brought you.

It’s also an invitation to look ahead and consider all the new possibilities that await you in the new year, set your intentions, goals and dreams for who you want to be, what you want to do and what you want to create.

Thank you for being part of my journey this past year, here in The New Beyond. I look forward to seeing where the new year takes us.

    May you be abundantly blessed,

  • Give Yourself Grace- a Meditation for Hectic Times
    2024/12/06

This week's episode is a selection from my Musings & Meditations Audio Series 2: Give Yourself Grace.

After just recovering from my first bout with Covid barely in time to board the flight to my dream bucket list trip to Barcelona, Spain, coming home in time for Thanksgiving and now almost recovered from jet lag and the lingering effects of Covid fatigue, I needed to give myself a lot of grace.

I am someone who is normally wired to go full speed at least 85% of the time. And yes, for an 82 year old, that is a bit unusual. But I've always been that way. Up until now.

And now, I'm learning the lessons of slowing down and savoring life at a different speed. So this meditation hits me at just the right moment and I hope it does that for you too.

It's part of a series of original meditations I've created especially for this season. Each one is designed to support you to come home to yourself, connect with what matters most, and savor the sweet stillness and silence within.

As we move in this busy time of year, may you remember to take good care of you, the one who will take you through this lifetime and into your own New Beyond.

Wishing you many blessings this holiday season!

  • Are We Being Good Ancestors?
    2024/11/15

As we continue to navigate the turbulent aftermath of the American presidential election, I want to turn our attention to a much broader and deeper question that extends beyond politics: Are we being good ancestors?

This is not just a question for Americans, but for every person living on this planet.

This week on The New Beyond, I’m diving into this profound inquiry, inspired by a line I heard during a play recently: “What are you choosing to do with the rest of the days your ancestors earned you?”

This question hit me hard, and I’ve been reflecting on it ever since.

What am I, personally, doing with the days my ancestors fought to give me?

    What choices am I making?

And on a collective level, what are WE choosing to do with the time we’ve been given?

    The episode explores:

    • How the choices we make today, both individually and collectively, are shaping the legacy we leave behind for future generations.

    • How history, environmental crises, social inequality, and personal responsibility intersect with the idea of being a “good ancestor.”

    • What Dr. Jonas Salk called “survival of the wisest,” and why wisdom, not just strength, is key to our survival and evolution.

We also dive into the personal responsibility we each carry to heal the wounds of our lineage and pass on a legacy that uplifts and empowers those who come after us.

The choices we make now—whether in how we treat the environment, each other, or ourselves—will be the foundation for the world our great-great-grandchildren inherit.

This episode is a call to action, a reminder that each of us has the power to leave behind something better, if we have the courage to make wise, conscious choices today.

I invite you to tune in to this week’s episode and reflect on the question: Are we being good ancestors?

  • The Soul of a Citizen: Does Your Vote Really Matter?
    2024/11/01

As the American presidential election draws near, we take on one of the most pressing questions many voters face: Does my vote really matter?

As the resident of a historically “blue” state, I’m often asked, “Why bother to vote?” And I'm told that “my vote doesn’t matter.”

In this week's episode, I challenge the notion of indifference and explore how our decision to vote—or not—reflects more than just political engagement. It speaks to how we show up in our lives.

Through insightful reflections, we’ll connect the act of voting to a deeper, more personal level. As listeners, you’ll be encouraged to examine where else in life you’ve chosen to "sit it out" or walk away from challenges, and what that says about how we value our own voices.

Drawing on history, from civil rights leaders to everyday acts of courage, we’re reminded that exercising our right to vote isn’t just a political act—it’s an affirmation of our belief that we matter.

    In this episode, you’ll discover:

    • Why your vote matters, even in a "red" or "blue" state.

    • The deeper spiritual and psychological implications of choosing not to vote.

    • How historical figures who stood up for what they believed shaped the world—and how you can too.

    • How your decision to vote or not reflects on your own sense of worth and voice.

With the future of the country at stake, I contend that showing up matters—not just for the election, but for the soul of the citizen in all of us.

Join the conversation, reflect on your own role, and most importantly—make your voice count.

  • In Praise of the Everyday Hero
    2024/10/04

In this powerful and reflective episode of The New Beyond, we'll dive deep into the concept of heroism, challenging the conventional definitions and shining a light on the quiet, everyday acts of bravery that often go unnoticed.

While society often glorifies grand heroic gestures, we'll explore the profound heroism that comes from simply being human, facing life's challenges, and continuing forward with resilience, compassion, and integrity.

    What makes an everyday hero?

It’s a mother giving birth, a teacher guiding students, or someone showing up as their authentic self in a world that may not always embrace them. In this episode, you’ll be encouraged to reflect on the quiet acts of heroism that we all embody, and how these simple, yet powerful, actions contribute to the greater good.

Heroism isn't always about grand, life-saving acts; sometimes, it’s the simple choice to live with authenticity, to care for others, and to face life’s challenges head-on.

Our individual actions, no matter how small, contribute to the collective resilience and strength of humanity as we navigate these difficult and polarized times.

  • Keys to Living a Life That Matters
    2024/09/20

This week’s episode is an interview from the summit, Midlife Spiritual Warrior, with hypontherapist and shamanic practitioner, Beth Osmer..

You might be wondering what I was doing on a summit focused on issues of midlife? Beth invited me to share with her audience some of the keys to living a life of vitality, energy and purpose well beyond the midlife years, basically what I call “Living a Life That Matters”.

What follows is our conversation about what has served me to keep going at a high level of creativity and engagement in a career that spans 50 years.

Some of the key things we discuss are the importance of:

    • Regular physical activity- it doesn’t matter what, as long as you are consistent

    • Healthy diet and nutrition

    • Knowing your purpose in life- being connected to and aligned with your soul’s calling-

    • Being curious and courageous instead of anxious- the willingness to move beyond anxiety and fear into courage and curiosity to meet the unknown

    • Maintaining an open mind-set and welcoming change

    • Having your actions aligned with your values

    • Trusting and believing in yourself

    • Community-the importance of belonging and being connected to a community of kindred spirits

    • Generosity and contribution- being in service to something larger than yourself

Join us in this rich conversation of what I’ve learned in 82 years of living a life that matters.
