  • Book Club - Sorrow and Bliss by Meg Mason
    2021/11/06
'It just has to be Sorrow and Bliss!' When I asked The Grown-Up Girls BookClub OG star Jules (Julie Collard) what book she thought we just had to do for bookclub, she didn't even need a minute to think. Sorrow and Bliss by Aussie author Meg Mason had her vote! So, my friends, in this episode Jules and I take a particularly deep dive into this great book.Sorrow and Bliss is Meg Mason's 3rd book and was released in September 2020. The book is best described as a series of vignettes written by 40 year old Martha in the aftermath of her separation from her husband. She is thinking back over her life and trying to better understand it, and more importantly, herself. It is both hilarious and heartbreaking - the title is competely apt!Check out our website for more information! Happy listening! Alex xx

In this episode, I am joined by my great friend and fellow book worm, Kate Walker to discuss this powerful tale. Written by Wiradjuri writer Tara June Winch, the Yield is a powerful read that at its core highlights the power, importance and healing ability of language. • TV Talk - The Bold Type
    2021/10/14
'The Bold Type' has been a favourite binge watch for many this year, so of course it had to be properly workshopped! In this episode, I am joined by Mandy Newman to talk about this show that brought us both joy - Marie Kondo would be proud! An American TV series that is available for binge watching on Stan here in Australia, The Bold Type focuses on the lives of three millennial women, portrayed by Katie_Stevens, Australian Aisha Dee and Meghann Fahy, all of whom are employed at a fictional global publication called Scarlet in New York City. It is inspired by the real life and career of former editor-in-chief of US Cosmopolitan magazine, Joanna Coles, who is also an executive producer of the series. Mandy and I discuss our favourite characters, talk fashion, how COVID clearly affected the filming of the final episode and workshop the criticism that we believe the show has unfairly received. We also manage to squeeze in mentions and updates of our other favourite shows of the moment including ClickBait, YellowStone, Virgin River & The Parisian Agency. Thanks for being a part of The Grown-Up Girls Report! Alex xx
