  • The Degradation of Bowl Games Is Progressively Dumb
    2024/12/17

Welcome to the last Sports R Dumb of the year! 2024 sure has been something, hasn't it? It's bowl season, and these bowl games aren't what they used to be. The killing of tradition in the name of dollars is dumb!

Joey also quizzes Sean on the sponsors and participants of various bowl games. Play along at home and see if you do better than Sean. The bar is pretty low.

We'll see you in 2025. Happy holidays!

  • Victories Teams Stumble Into R Luckily Dumb
    2024/12/10

Have you ever watched a game where it felt like the team that won had just backed into the victory? These dumb wins happen all the time, and we're revisiting some of our favorites.

You'll hear about this weird spinning onside kick the Falcons refused to pick up, the Lions winning a game after missing a field goal, and perhaps the silliest baseball play you'll ever see.

  • Rivalry Week Overreactions R Viciously Dumb
    2024/12/03

College football celebrated Rivalry Week, and we saw a ton of flag planting. And fighting...after the media told these teams how much they hate each other.

Plus, remember that final Bears drive on Thanksgiving? We sure had a lot of silly things happen this past week. Welcome to December.

  • Not Honoring Sports Commitments is Selfishly Dumb
    2024/11/26

Joey has 10 players on his rec league team, but only four showed up for his most recent game. Where was everyone else? Why do so many people feel okay saying they'll do something—like participate in a league, accompany you to a game, or join a watch party—and then back out with no warning or heads up? These people are missing a common courtesy that should be ingrained in all of us.

The Cowboys have had a ton of silly things happen to them over the past couple of weeks. Then, they went out and won perhaps the dumbest game ever. Amazing.

We're also sharing a Mike Leach quote that might set the record for number of times using the word "dumb," and we get way too into the intricacies of tuning a guitar. Plus, it's Thanksgiving week, so we're sharing unusual things we're thankful for.

Number one on that list? You! Follow Sports R Dumb on Instagram or give the show a rating or review on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or Goodpods. Thanks for listening!

  • Dropping the Ball Before Scoring a Touchdown is Bafflingly Dumb
    2024/11/19

We're smack dab in the middle of the NFL and college football seasons. Why are we still seeing players drop the ball before they reach the end zone? How has this happened more than once in the history of football?

Plus, Joey gets unexpected guests at the house, a fun fact about those tall skeletons you may have seen in people's yards, and a rude trash talker during rec league basketball.

You'd do quite the good deed by sharing Sports R Dumb on Instagram or giving the show a rating or review on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or Goodpods. Thanks for listening!

  • Talking About Sports After an Election is Pointlessly Dumb
    2024/11/12

Astute American listeners may have noticed there was an election last week, with the President all the way to local politicians up for office.

Trying to talk about sports after the chaos of the past week feels like a silly endeavor, but we're gonna try our best! After all, the dumb moments don't stop.

  • Fans Who Act a Fool R Repercussively Dumb
    2024/11/05

First things first: If you're in the U.S., please vote!

Now, for the episode: Mookie Betts makes a catch in the crowd, and fans try to break his wrist to wrestle the ball from his grasp. Jason Kelce gets asked a homophobic question. Why do fans think they can treat players so poorly and not face repercussions?

Thankfully, in both cases, the offending parties were punished — in the latter, Jason Kelce smashed the guy’s phone on the ground, which you love to see. But still, this is not the behavior anyone needs.

Plus, outfielders losing track of outs in an inning and prematurely throwing the ball into the stands, throwbacks to both How I Met Your Mother and Sister, Sister and the best way to respond to trash getting thrown on the field.

We hope those fans don’t read this part, but we hope you do! Sports R Dumb on Instagram or give the show a rating or review on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or Goodpods. And check out Burning Years anywhere you’re hearing this podcast. Thanks for listening!

  • Sports Tricks and Treats R Spooktacularly Dumb
    2024/10/29

It’s a spooktacular of dumb sports moments! We’re covering the Boston Celtics playing angry basketball, load management already being a thing one week into the NBA season, Chicago Bears safety Tyrique Stevenson taunting fans while a Hail Mary was happening, Sean’s Dallas Cowboys, and lackluster coverage around the World Series even though it’s got the two most popular teams in it.

We’re also dissecting underrated Halloween candies and relating to each other’s lack of conditioning in our respective shorts leagues. Luckily, the two pair together quite nicely.
