  • Black in The City of London is a podcast dedicated to examining the black experience in the Square Mile. In this episode Jonathan Goddard interviews Nick Draper, formerly Co-director of the Structure and Significance of British Caribbean Slave-ownership 1763-1833 project (2013-2015) and co-founder of the original Legacies of British Slave-ownership project (2009-2012). They discuss the economic connections between the docks, slavery and the City of London, the nature and scale of wealth derived from British involvement in the transatlantic slave trade and the involvement of British financial institutions in profiting from the trade.

    In the second half of the episode, Jonathan Goddard interviews Jean-Francois Manicom, Senior Curator at the Museum of London Docklands. They discuss how the Museum, which sits in a waterside warehouse atop the West India docks, covers the topic of transatlantic slavery and the challenges of telling this story.
