  • PREVIEW: Padres trade ideas & the return of stadium talk
    2025/07/11

Darren Smith is out with a family emergency today, so John Gennaro is handling this one solo. He talks for a bit about the San Diego Padres winning last night, why he believes in a Fernando Tatis Jr. resurgence, and why he thinks the team has told the front office to be (bargain bin) buyers, instead of sellers, at the MLB trade deadline.

Also, after John complains a bit about how the 7th inning was managed last night, he re-visits his Padres trade ideas from yesterday that would bring in two new OF/DH options and a new starting catcher.

After that, Darren Smith has sent in a couple of funny clips that show off the perspective of Europeans when it comes to American sports hatred and American weather. Both of them are very funny.

Finally, stadium talk is back in San Diego. Not really, but kinda. Hopefully, nobody takes it too seriously and we can move into the weekend where the Padres and San Diego FC have critical games ahead of them.

  • PREVIEW: Should the Padres give Dylan Cease the qualifying offer?
    2025/07/10

Darren Smith is in Florida but still wanted to chat with John Gennaro about the San Diego Padres and whether or not they should extend Dylan Cease a qualifying offer this offseason after the terrible first half to the season he's had.

John gets wrapped up in a quote from Mike Shildt that seems to point the blame for the team's poor offensive output on GM A.J. Preller, and whether or not Manny Machado is leading a joyless clubhouse.

  • PREVIEW: Should Daily Fantasy Sports be illegal?
    2025/07/09

Darren Smith and John Gennaro try to make it a short podcast and fail, going a full hour-ish on translators in the locker room, Mike Shildt's love of wearing the baseball uniform, bone-in filet mignon and the proper way to order a steak, AI and ABS taking over for referees/umpires in professional sports, whether or not Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) should be legal, why Red Bull sacked their Team Principal in Formula 1, and how casual is too casual when it comes to explicit language. Enjoy!

  • PREVIEW: What does Darvish's return mean for the Padres' future?
    2025/07/08

We finally have an episode without a guest, so Darren and John get to dive into their midseason Padres thoughts (Manny gets 2000 hits, Darvish looks good in his return, Tatis lacking power but still a valuable player, etc.) before spending some time talking about a potential UFC event at the White House and San Diego's reaction to JD Vance and Usha Vance dining in University Heights (and screwing up traffic).

  • Weekend Recap: USA complains about refs after losing Gold Cup final
    2025/07/07

Darren and John kick off the show by talking about the long weekend and reflecting on a very entertaining, but eventually disappointing, home loss for San Diego FC against Houston Dynamo FC. They try to take some positives away from it and try to figure out what went wrong, if anything.

Then, ESPN's Eric Gomez joins the show to recap Mexico's Gold Cup win in the final game against the U.S. Men's National Team, look ahead to the future of both of these clubs in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, preview the Club Tijuana Xolos season and even talk a little San Diego Padres baseball.

After the guys let Eric go, Darren gives John credit for calling Jason Adam being named to the NL All-Star Team and the guys talk about the excitement surrounding Yu Darvish's first start of the season tonight.

  • PREVIEW: USA vs. Mexico in the Gold Cup Final
    2025/07/03

The guys kick off the show by complaining about the San Diego Padres' approach, or at least their inconsistency in their approach to hitting, before switching to soccer and today's guest.

Jon Arnold, from the Getting CONCACAFed Substack, joins Darren and John for a match preview of the 2025 Gold Cup Final between the U.S. Men's National Team and Mexico. The game will take place in Houston on Sunday, but there are a lot of interesting characters and narratives that have been built throughout this tournament that will end up playing a role in this game and in the FIFA World Cup in 2026.

After the interview, the guys wonder if there is actual any use for social media anymore and discuss the benefits of learning more about soccer as a viewer.

  • PREVIEW: Sean Kelly on the F1 movie & the future of Formula 1
    2025/07/02

Formula 1 on-stage host and chief statistician to the TV broadcasters, Sean Kelly joins Darren Smith and John Gennaro for a conversation that mostly centers around the movie F1, starring Brad Pitt.

First, the guys address the breaking news of a contract extension for SDFC defender Chris McVey before welcoming Sean to the show.

The guys talk about how realistic the F1 movie is, how it stacks up against other Formula 1 movies, why Formula 1 is having a surge in popularity, potential changes to Formula 1 before next season and what a NASCAR road course could look like in downtown San Diego.

Later, Darren and John talk about some of the deeper narratives they took away after seeing the film before addressing the New York Knicks coaching situation and if it's tied to LeBron James.

  • PREVIEW: Is Italian cuisine overrated?
    2025/07/01

The guys recorded early today before Darren headed off to SDFC training, and they tried (and failed) to not talk about the San Diego Padres. They ended up spending some time talking about Luis Campusano, what he means for the 2025 Padres and some of the reasons why he might not get another chance with the club.

The conversation then turns to soccer, for a while, with Darren breaking down the weather hazards that have been interrupting Club World Cup games and what it means for the FIFA World Cup in 2026. However, it quickly stops when two players from the U.S. Men's National Team said that Italian cuisine was overrated.
