  • Making sustainability part of the business, not just the product or process
    2024/10/28
The physical parts of a product and its manufacture are only part of the story, especially when it comes to sustainability. The other major component is operations. From ongoing machine improvements to complete process overhauls, the operations of a facility can have high impact to the overall sustainability of a product and to manufacturing. Even a 1% reduction in CO2 emissions across the manufacturing sector can prevent 90 million tonnes for CO2 per year. With a focus on operational improvements for sustainability, business can continue gaining profitability as they would through other efficiency improvements. Less energy is both lower costs and fewer Scope 2 emissions from the energy providers. To talk about the role of operational improvements and the quest for sustainable industrial manufacturing, we have the second half of the conversation with Eyrn Devola and Rahul Garg. Eryn is the Head of Sustainability at Siemens Digital Industries and Rahul is the VP of Industrial Machinery at Siemens Digital Industries Software. What you’ll learn:[00:47] Defining the goals of sustainable machine operation[05:03] Understanding sustainability as another metric to balance[10:56] Regulating industrial operations for sustainability[17:39] Training for a sustainable industrial future Learn more about sustainability on our website

  • Outlining a sustainable approach to industrial machinery
    2024/10/21
Creating a sustainable product requires thoughtful action across the entire lifecycle, from design to decommissioning, but for many products one of the greatest hurdles to sustainability lies in its manufacture. Whether that is energy use from production processes, carbon emissions from the factory or energy providers, or creating traceability between raw material and finished product, manufacturers need a way to better understand their business with sustainability in mind. To talk about what impact sustainability is having on the world of manufacturing, Eryn Devola Head of Sustainability at Siemens Digital Industries sat down with Rahul Garg Vice President of Industrial Machinery at Siemens Digital Industries Software. What you’ll learn:[00:58] The trends leading to sustainable business strategies[03:56] Defining the intersection of digitalization and sustainability[08:56] Creating an outline for sustainable industrial manufacturers Learn more about sustainability on our website

  • Collaborating on sustainable automotive products
    2024/09/19
Making a business more sustainable is a great goal, but making an industry sustainable requires cooperation across OEMs, suppliers, partners, and many other stakeholders in contact with an industry. Automotive is one of the best examples to use for this dynamic as the vehicles produced have associated emissions across their entire lifecycle from raw material to end-of-life. To talk about cooperation and collaboration in a sustainable automotive industry, Eryn Devola, the Head of Sustainability at Siemens Digital Industries, is joined by Nand Kochhar, the VP of Automotive and Transportation Industries at Siemens Digital Industries Software. What you’ll learn:[1:36] Recycling doesn’t start at end of life[6:56] Overcoming high demand in global supply chains[10:18] How US transportation is growing beyond the car Learn more about sustainability on our website

  • Helping automotive companies become sustainable
    2024/09/11
Sustainability as a driver of business evolution is everywhere, but for industries that are so tied to consumers, like automotive, the market pressure is very prevalent. There are consumer demands as well as legislation trends that are impacting these markets first because they are so visible. To make that change, companies are really looking at strategies to implement and execute on becoming more sustainable in what they’re doing every day. To talk about this struggle and it specific impacts on the automotive industry, Eryn Devola, the Head of Sustainability at Siemens Digital Industries, is joined by Nand Kochhar, the VP of Automotive and Transportation Industries at Siemens Digital Industries Software. What you’ll learn:[02:25] Why sustainability needs to be a long-term goal, not a short-term requirement[05:21] Does autonomy have a sustainability impact?[09:00] How to empower companies to achieve sustainability goals[10:41] How to comply with greater regulation overheadLearn more about sustainability solution on our website

  • Ecosystems are crucial to sustainability successes
    2024/08/13
When it comes to industrial businesses, saving Earth’s ecosystems depends on making strong supplier and partner ecosystems. Modern products already contribute to increased complexity in the value chain for design and manufacturing for a variety of reasons. Adding sustainability as a KPI only exacerbates that dynamic. But by tackling this challenge with digitalization and trusted partners, businesses can make their sustainability transitions successful. A continuation of episode two, Eryn Devola and Dale Tutt return to talk about the role of building strong industrial ecosystems for sustainability and why digitalization is critical in supporting that effort. What you’ll learn:[0:45] Understanding complexity is the first step[7:50] The industrial ecosystem includes people-centricity and societal impact[9:58] An important mindset for sustainability is integration, not additionFor even more on sustainability, be sure to check out our website siemens.com/sustainable-industries

  • Driving Industrial Sustainability
    2024/08/06
Sustainability means many things to different groups, it might be increased greenery, clear water, renewable energy resources, alternative plastics, and any number of other ideas. But to many businesses it can often be simplified to net-zero commitments and government regulations. That simplification is exactly that, however and how businesses work on sustainability can diverge drastically. To give some form to what sustainability means for industry, we have a discussion with Eryn Devola, the Head of Sustainability at Siemens Digital Industries and Dale Tutt, the Industry Strategy Leader at Siemens Digital Industries Software. In this first half of the discussion Eryn and Dale focus on the design aspects to sustainability, while part two covers the need to create an ecosystem for sustainability successes. What you’ll learn:[0:52] Why are more companies talking about sustainability today?[5:55] Some first steps towards sustainability[7:42] Integrating sustainability with the many other business requirements[11:23] The role of the digital twin in sustainabilityFor more information about sustainable industries, check out our website siemens.com/sustainable-industries
