Helping children understand the foundations of strong, caring friendships
In the first episode of Series 7: Navigating Friendships, Miss Harrison introduces the key qualities that help children build lasting and meaningful friendships. From sharing and taking turns to listening with care and treating others with fairness, this episode helps children reflect on what it truly means to be a good friend.
Through the gentle story of Mia and her “friendship garden”, children learn that friendships, like flowers, grow best when they are nurtured with kindness, patience, and care.
What Children Will Learn:
- What makes a good friend
- Why kindness, listening, and fairness matter
- How to grow a friendship just like a flower
- Ways to reflect on and improve their own friendships
Miss Harrison’s Key Friendship Qualities:
- Kindness – Saying kind words, sharing smiles, and helping others when needed
- Listening – Paying attention when friends talk and showing care for how they feel
- Fairness – Taking turns, sharing, and making sure everyone feels included
Children are encouraged to think about which of these they’re already good at—and which they’d like to work on.
Mindful Moment Challenge:
Every day this week, choose one thing that shows you’re a good friend. It could be listening closely, sharing fairly, or helping someone feel included. Notice how it makes your friendships stronger and more joyful.
