To disciple our children like Jesus is to go beyond rules and rewards. It’s to invite them into a living, breathing relationship with God by showing them what it looks like. It’s opening the Bible not just to read, but to live. It’s listening when they struggle, praying when they hurt, celebrating when they grow, and staying present through every stage of their development. The home is the first mission field. Before the world hears the Gospel from us, our children should experience it through us. Every bedtime prayer, every story of Jesus, every act of forgiveness and mercy teaches them who God is.

    Faith isn’t just taught—it’s caught in the rhythms of everyday life. The kitchen table, the car ride, the bedtime routine—these are the sacred spaces where godly parents have the greatest influence. Moses understood this when he spoke to the Israelites in Deuteronomy. He wasn’t commanding a weekly sermon or an occasional devotion—he was calling parents to a lifestyle of faith-filled conversation. God's Word was to be so close to their hearts that it overflowed into natural dialogue with their children, day after day. Think of Mary and Joseph, who raised Jesus in the truths of the Jewish faith. Luke 2 tells us that Jesus “grew in wisdom and stature” under their care (Luke 2:52). It wasn’t through one big talk but through years of godly conversation, teaching, and example. In a world filled with noise, parents are still the most powerful voice in a child’s life. Daily faith conversations don’t have to be perfect or scripted—they just have to be intentional.

    Parenting is already a full-time journey, but parenting as disciples of Jesus adds a deeper layer of commitment. Discipleship isn’t a title—it’s a lifestyle. And as godly parents, we are called to model this life for our children, not just in Sunday worship, but in daily sacrifice, obedience, and joyful surrender. Jesus’ words in Luke 9:23 are radical. He doesn't invite us to comfort but to carry a cross—to deny our preferences, persevere through trials, and follow Him with unwavering trust. That’s costly. And as parents, we sometimes feel the weight even more when we choose what’s spiritually right over what’s culturally popular. Consider Abraham, who was willing to give up even his beloved son Isaac in obedience to God (Genesis 22). While God didn’t ultimately require the sacrifice, Abraham’s willingness revealed the depth of his trust. That same kind of discipleship—where we surrender our will and our children to God—is where true joy and blessing are found. Yes, discipleship costs. But the joy of seeing your children grow in faith, the peace of living in God’s will, and the legacy of spiritual impact you leave behind—are priceless.
