Please like, follow, and subscribe.   BREAK: MORGAN MEDICAL STORY 1: Newton woman charged with firing gun at group of juveniles Sharika Denise Berry, 39, of Newton County, faces five counts of aggravated assault and five counts of cruelty to children after allegedly firing a gunshot at a group of juveniles during an argument on May 24. The incident occurred outside a residence on Greenway Drive, and the victims later met deputies at a nearby Publix parking lot. Berry was arrested and booked into the Newton County Detention Center on May 25. STORY 2: Funk Concert at Cultural Center this Saturday Madison is gearing up for a summer of outdoor fun, starting with a free Funk Concert hosted by the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center (MMCC) this Saturday, June 7, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the Front Lawn. The event features The Original Splitz Band, a funk cover group blending Motown, 70s funk, disco, and R&B, with Madison native Rufus Hope. Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic blankets, chairs, and enjoy live music, food trucks, and concessions. The MMCC is located at 434 South Main Street in Madison. STORY 3: Juneteenth celebrations set in Conyers, Covington Residents in Conyers and Covington can enjoy vibrant Juneteenth celebrations this year. Covington's festivities on June 14 include a parade at 10 a.m. starting at Legion Field, followed by a festival with vendors, food trucks, and music from DJ Trucker. The evening features a concert by Xtreme Party Band at 7:30 p.m. and fireworks. Conyers will host its Juneteenth Festival on June 19 from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on North Main Street, offering food, fun, and free admission. Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery, marking June 19, 1865, when emancipation news reached Galveston, Texas. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.799.6810 for more info.      We’ll be right back   Break: COPY CENTRAL STORY 4: Early Voting Open For Special Primary Election For Georgia Public Service Commission Early voting for the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) Primary in Morgan County has seen a slow turnout, with only 45 voters casting ballots as of June 2. The PSC regulates utilities and sets rates for Georgians. Early voting continues through June 13, with polls open Monday-Friday (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and Saturday, June 7 (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) at the Morgan County Board of Elections. The primary election for Districts 2 and 3 is on June 17, with a potential runoff on July 15. Democratic candidates for District 3 include Keisha Waites, Peter Hubbard, Robert Jones, and Daniel Blackman, who remains on the ballot after a residency appeal. The winner will face Republican Fitz Johnson in the November 4 general election. STORY 5: District 3 Cleanup set for June 28 Keep Newton Beautiful (KNB) and the Newton County Board of Commissioners are hosting a District 3 Cleanup on Saturday, June 28, starting at 9 a.m. in Avonlea. Volunteers, including families, civic groups, and businesses, are invited to help pick up roadside litter. Participants will meet at 45 Carmody Circle for free breakfast, supplies, and t-shirts (while available). Children under 12 must be supervised, and all participants must sign a release form. KNB emphasizes litter prevention through cleanups, education, and programs like "Adopt-a-Mile." For details, visit their website or contact KNB directly.
