On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in David Lasseter to the show to break down the Panthers 5-3 win over the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 5, where the Panthers had to do it in comeback fashion. The Panthers had a sloppy first period where the goals ended up in the back of their net after poor passes in the neutral zone. The Panthers woke up in the second period with three goals in three shots in less than five minute span, including a goal that ended a drought of 10 power play opportunities without scoring, and Evan Rodrigues getting his first goal of the postseason, which makes it now 19 different goal scorers for the Panthers. Although the Canes tied it off a poor backhand pass from Gustav Forsling, Panthers Captain Aleskander Barkov fought off a check from Carolina and had a wonderful set up to Carter Verhaeghe, which ended up as the winner. Florida then capitalized on the empty netter where it was a lot of zone time, but only one shot on net on the 6-on-4 opportunity. It's five different goal scorers on the night, and doing so with having 10 forwards for most of the game with AJ Greer and Eetu Luostarinen sustaining injuries. The two provide their three stars of the game, when they knew the series was won, and discuss the feeling of a third straight Stanley Cup Final, the elite company that they're in over the last 45 years(the NHL/WHA merger) with only four teams making three straight Stanley Cup Final's. The key for Carolina was breaking up plays in the middle of the ice to prevent quality opportunities for Florida, and it resulted in a win. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Florida Panthers Historian, Francisco Oporta(@FLACatsHistory) to break down the Panthers 6-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final. The two discuss how the Carolina Hurricanes gave the Cats quite the challenge in the first 40, where they were already without Sam Reinhart, and had to go the final 40+ minutes without Eetu Luostarinen after receiving a five-minute major and a game misconduct for boarding Jackson Blake. Although the Cats got the kill, Carolina scored later in the period, and it was a tie game to begin the final frame. The Panthers used a 9:08 stretch in the game to score five times, where the Panthers got their chances off the rush after Carolina was unable to exit their end cleanly, Florida ended up taking advantage of multiple chances off the rush. The guys give their three stars of the game, when they knew the game was won, and discuss the culture clashes between the two teams, and also provide some good news on the injury front to Sam Reinhart and Niko Mikkola. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Nich Fairbanks(@Prudentia0) for another edition of Fairbanks Friday, as the Panthers got out to a 2-0 series lead after defeating the Carolina Hurricanes by a final of 5-0. The second line set the tone for the Cats they their forecheck was a force, created the first two goals. Now Gustav Forsling has joined in on the scoring as now it's 18 different goal scorers for them in 14 playoff games. The Cats got the best out of Andrei Svechnikov as he committed the turnovers that led to the first two goals, along with going to the box after an unnecessary roughing call on Matthew Tkachuk that the Panthers converted on the power play. The Canes looked to have cut it to a 3-1 deficit, but the Panthers bought time by using a timeout to look at the replay again where it was Brent Burns who touched the puck as it re-entered the Panthers zone, and before Carolina could tag up at the blue line, it was ruled an offside. Panthers continued to come in waves even after losing Sam Reinhart after a knee-on-knee collision from Sebastian Aho as the Panthers were gaining the zone, and did not return. How much of a concern is there now as the series shifts to Sunrise? Panthers set a record for most road playoff goals in their first nine games, and it's May 22nd and Sergei Bobrovsky has a shutout, something done two other times on this date.
