Christina and Britt continue their conversation on “the sleeping world” as described in Christina’s book Yoga From the Inside Out.
This week, Britt asks Christina to talk about the human tendency to compare as highlighted by Christina’s longtime student Jeannene in Chapter Three. Christina shares how the age old advise to “not compare yourself” falls short. Rather than eradicating comparison they discuss the nuances of comparison and how it becomes harmful when imbued with feelings of superiority or inferiority.
They also discuss comparison as a mirroring practice that is natural to humans. From this perspective they consider to the importance of diversity such that all types of people see themselves reflected .
The conversation also weaves in themes of aging consciously and how to be compassionate with self when one might fall into the social pressure to hit certain milestones on an externally prescribed timeline.
