Impostor Syndrome Podcast

著者: Samuel Westwood
  • サマリー

  • Impostor Syndrome is characterised by a set of feelings of self-doubt about ones skills, talents, and competence, and/or a persistent fear of being "found out" or exposed as a "fraud". From time-to-time or throughout their career, academics suffer with Impostor Syndrome, forcing some to never reach their potential and others to leave academia altogether. In a series of monthly interviews I shall interview academics from across different career stages and disciplines to learn how they have coped with their own experiences with Impostor Syndrome. By hearing from a variety of viewpoints, I aim to help listeners overcome challenges they might face as they progress through their career and in so doing provide a much-needed antidote to their Impostor Syndrome.

Rejection. It happens to us all, whether applying for a grant or submitting a paper for peer review. Yet, despite rejection being part of academia, academics (me included) can find rejection very difficult to cope with. To talk about issues surrounding rejection and how to cope with it, I am joined by Dr Dan Quintana (@dsquintana) and Prof Siri Leknes (@sirileknes).

  • Being an early career researcher feminist in open science ~ Drs Maddi Pownall & Alex Lautarescu
    2022/05/31

In today's show I will be chatting with Drs Maddi Pownall (@maddi_pow) and Alex Lautarescu (@AleLautarescu) about their recent paper, Navigating Open Science as Early Career Feminist Researchers (link below). We cover the barriers and support that open science presents for feminist researchers at the junior stages of their academic careers before touching on the idea of Impostor Syndrome and how it can have shortcomings as a term to describe self-doubt in academia.
