We weren’t in Bethlehem when the King was born. We didn't see a mother labor and deliver a tiny baby- The ONE who would be Messiah, King of the world.

We didn't see thousands and thousands of angels singing, “Glory to God in the highest!”

But thousands of years later, we see the impact, we witness lives changed and freed. We see hope rise up in souls who have walked in discouragement and darkness. And each human is miraculously offered freedom and forgiveness.

We didn't see this miraculous birth, but we daily live in the effects of it.

As we celebrate the miracle of His birth—God in human form—let’s remember that He was not only born to be the Savior of the world. He came to be a shepherd to His people- to you and to me.

In Matthew 2, the priests reported this ancient prophecy, terrifying the evil king who was ruling at the time:

And you, O Bethlehem in the land of Judah, are not least among the ruling cities of Judah, for a ruler will come from you who will be the shepherd for my people Israel.’

Whatever is going on in your life at this moment, you don’t have to be ruled by stress, anxiety, hurry, or worry.

Let your loving shepherd, Jesus, guide you and care for you right now. He is the God who came to be with His people. And He loves you completely.

He entered the world as a tiny baby. What a miracle! Dependent, needy, vulnerable… The creator of all lowered Himself to come.

What kind of King would do this? He is a King who had nothing to prove, who simply made a way through this act of humility and obedience, sacrifice and suffering. God made a way.

And He asks each of us. He calls us, Come, humble yourself, become like a child. Submit yourself to me; lose your life for my sake.

This is the way of Jesus.

The birth of Jesus was not a complete surprise to the Jewish people; they’d been waiting for a savior to come for a long time. They’d heard about Him long before in a scroll written by the prophet Isaiah.

…the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).

Some people were watching and eagerly awaiting the birth of Jesus. What are you expecting this Christmas?

Count on this: Jesus came to earth because He loves you, and He wants to be with you. If you invite Him into your Christmas celebration, watch out for Him, expect Him; this will be your miracle… that the very presence of God will be with you this Christmas.

Will you take a moment to hold still right now? Take a deep breath.

Philippians 4:6 says this, Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Consider this your personal permission to pause from the hurried pace and come into a moment of prayer. You can bring everything that’s on your mind and hand it over to God. He is faithful to care for you.

Bring Him: Your needs Your worries The questions that you don’t have answers to yet Your relationships Even your to-do list

Place these things in God’s capable hands. He cares for you. He will give you peace and stillness no matter what your circumstance. Will you let Him?

It’s true that some seasons of life are more difficult than others, but it’s also true that there is no magical arrival point. There’s no time in our lives when everything is going to be sorted out just right.

So, you may be thinking, Andrew, if that’s the case, will I ever have peace?!

Here’s what Jesus said, I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.

You can have God’s peace right now. It comes in receiving God’s offer of eternal life. It comes in knowing and trusting in a loving God who is powerful and able to change the things you cannot.

Have you seen the way that water flows? It’s amazing! Always finds a way, a path, an avenue to move. It fills every space, and when the space is full, it finds more space until it eventually overflows.

This is the promise Jesus offers to you; it’s so beautiful! He says: If you ask me, I will give you living water- my very self that will become in you a spring welling up to eternal life.

He wants to satisfy your thirst in the deepest parts of the fabric of your soul. Is the Spirit filling you?
