  • High Above Grand (Poet Aaron Belz)

    Aaron Belz holds a Masters in Poetry from NYU (1995) and a Ph.D. in American Literature from Saint Louis University (2007) where his scholarship was recognized with a Walter J. Ong Award. He’s also an alumnus of the Vermont Studio Center (2007) where he received an NEA Grant to support his creative work. He’s since published four collections of poems:The Bird Hoverer (BlazeVOX, 2007), Lovely, Raspberry (Persea, 2010),Glitter Bomb (Persea, 2014), and Soft Launch (Persea, 2019). He’s also served as poetry columnist for Paste Magazine and Capital Commentary, book reviewer for Books & Culture,The San Francisco Chronicle, and St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and Poet Laureate of Hillsborough, North Carolina (2014-16). A St. Louis native, he is probably best known as founder of Observable Poetry, a live reading series that has been active since 2003 and named “Best of St. Louis” by The Riverfront Times.

    R. W. Smith is a frazzled educator, frustrated writer, and a sometimes wannabe musician. He has a Saint Louisan by way of the Bronx, New York. He began the Brooklyn Moon poetry readings in Fort Greene Brookyn while hustling as an adjunct and attending classes at The City College and other campuses at the City University of New York. He came to Saint Louis during the Great Recession along with other way ward souls trying to escape the calamity that was and is New York City. He has taught at Saint Louis University and University of Missouri in Saint Louis where he received a Doctorate in Education. He currently teaching high school English and working on a documentary about Saint Louis poet K. Curtis Lyle.

    Matthew Freeman's eighth book, Dopamine and the Devil, will soon be released from Coffeetown Press. He holds an MFA from the University of Missouri-Saint Louis and often writes about his recovery from a dual diagnosis and his time spent engaging theory and power at Parkview Place.

    Joseph Sulier was born and raised in the simple poverty of Fenton Missouri and currently resides in the city of St. Louis. Sulier has been published in several literary journals including 52nd City, The U. City Review, The Curator Magazine and RINE and has had several collections of poetry published including The Ruins of a Rube (Permanent Sleep Press), A House Full of Broken Instruments (Permanent Sleep Press), The Dogs Are Winning (Calico Grounds Press), Only Death is Certain (Get Born Press) and Never Well Again (Get Born Press).

  • High Above Grand (Ann Haubrich)

    Ann Haubrich is the Regional Arts Commission’s Director of Grants and Programs where she strives to establish a more equitable and efficient experience for local artists and arts organizations. She has an extensive history in the nonprofit arts sector as a grantmaker and grant seeker. Her work history includes leadership roles with River Styx, the Writer’s Voice (a national literary arts project of the YMCA), Prison Performing Arts, and the Contemporary Art Museum of St. Louis. In 1997, she co-founded RAC’s Community Arts Training Institute. She has been adjunct faculty with Webster University’s Arts Management & Leadership MFA program, teaching Community and Cultural Policy, as well as serving on boards of numerous local arts organizations. Ever interested in the St. Louis community, she is a graduate of Leadership St. Louis and for 20+ years, she co-produced and co-hosted a literary arts program on a St. Louis community radio station (Literature for the Halibut). She currently serves on the St. Louis Poet Laureate Task Force and the selection committee for the St. Louis Literary Award.

    Philip Gounis’ work has appeared in a variety of literary publications and entertainment magazines. He has also worked as a writing tutor, editor and publisher. In the radio broadcast medium he has served as both host and producer.
