• Children's Mental Health is still in Crisis
    2025/06/06

Research is focused on child and teen mental health, exploring why they are struggling and what can be done to help them.

In the U.S., kids underage experience a mental health disorder such as depression, anxiety, or substance abuse. Yet nearly half do not receive any treatment.
Children and teenagers can struggle with mental health issues just the same as adults. In the 10 years leading up to the pandemic, feelings of persistent sadness and hopelessness—as well as suicidal thoughts and behaviors—increased by about 40% among young people.

Psychologists were also behind new mental health recommendations from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, a group of volunteer health professionals who evaluate evidence on various preventive health services. The task force now recommends regular anxiety screenings for youth ages 8 to 18 and regular depression screenings for adolescents ages 12 to 18. More must be done!

Anxiety can trigger depression and other behavioral physical and mental health issues. It is especially hard if you are dealing with other personal, work, relationship, or family-related issues. It is okay to ask for help.

  • Why has anxiety, depression and trauma skyrocketed since the inception of the smartphone?
    2025/05/30

Smartphones have transformed the way we communicate, learn, and entertain ourselves.

The tendency to compare oneself with others and the desire for validation through likes and comments can lead to a distorted self-image and feelings of worthlessness, continuing; studies have shown a correlation between heavy social media use and depression, anxiety, loneliness, and suicidal ideation. Recognizing the potential harm of excessive screen time on mental health, particularly in adolescents, are you an Advocate for Screen Time Limitations?

The aim of this initiative is to reduce exposure to the potentially harmful effects of excessive screen time, such as sleep disruption, increased anxiety, and depressive symptoms.

  • The Concept of Soul-Ties
    2025/05/26

This relatively new concept popularized in the early 2000's and first originated in the New Age Movement System. In scripture it is a deep spiritual, emotional and relational bond between two individuals. Good spirits do not attach themselves to evil spirits. Nor can an evil spirit attach itself to the Holy spirit. You cannot attach your spirit to someone else's. You can, however, be influenced by someone else's spirit if you open the portal to darkness by attaching to negativity and demonic spirits.

Soul ties are emotional bonds that form an attachment. They may be Godly or ungodly, pure or demonic. Contrary to what is commonly believed soul ties are not always links between individuals, these ties can form an ungodly attachment with people, places, or things. That's right! People can be overly attached to pets, possessions (stuff), or anything else imaginable...'you are a slave to whatever controls you'. II Peter 2:19

Believers are encouraged to trust in God, and Him only to bring peace, and restoration to the soul. Explore some scriptural verses as Christ sets the example to abiding in the right spirit and shun the evil. We are created to need an intimate relationship with God and each other, not with the spirit of darkness and evil.

Anxiety can trigger depression and other behavioral physical and mental health issues. It is especially hard if you are dealing with other personal, work, relationship, or family-related issues. It is okay to ask for help.

  • The Blame Game: Is it racism or justice?
    2025/05/20

The story of Tennessean Pamela Moses receiving a six-year prison sentence for submitting a form with incorrect information while trying to regain her voting rights begins with her past criminal record and ends with a judge who did not believe her.

Yes, she was on probation for a prior felony conviction, including a 2015 conviction for tampering with evidence. But she believed her probation had ended, a probation officer told her she was actually done with her felony probation, records show. The probation officer signed off on her certificate of restoration to vote.

Ms. Moses was charged with perjury. She was charged and sentenced to years in prison! There's so much more to this story, such as taxpayers' money, politics and Ms. Moses' family. This had to be traumatic for all involved in her life.

Donald Kirk Hartle, a white Republican voter, was charged with 2 counts of voter fraud in Las Vegas after he forged his dead wife’s signature to vote with her ballot. He was sentenced in November to one year of probation.

Traumatic you ask, a resounding yes! Is it racism or injustice? A resounding Yes to both!

  • Effective Therapy with Black Women
    2025/05/10

In many areas, there are too few behavioral health professionals or therapist to provide cultural matching to all clients (people of color, specifically women and girls) who would benefit from it, so the ideal is that practitioners of all colors and cultures work toward the capacity to reach across color lines in culturally appropriate ways.

Black women are often pigeonholed as strong caregivers and providers who shoulder others’ burdens and do not share their own. They're expected to hold down the house, rear the children, work and school and lead in church services etc.

Burnout and stress are rampant among Black women, especially as many absorb traumatizing situation daily. Racism is traumatizing!

"It’s ok to be a strong black woman– I say - You don’t rid yourselves of the Strong Black Woman image, you throw out parts of it, but you use parts of it to move toward healing.” Let's vibe and heal together!

Anxiety can trigger depression and other behavioral physical and mental health issues. It is especially hard if you are dealing with other personal, work, relationship, or family-related issues. It is okay to ask for help.

Cheslie Kryst, the 2019 winner of the Miss USA pageant and a correspondent for the entertainment news program “Extra,” has died at age 30. When Kryst was crowned, it marked more than a personal triumph: It meant that for the first time, three women of color were the reigning Miss USA, Miss Teen USA and Miss America.

"By the Time You Read This: The Space Between Cheslie's Smile and Mental Illness."

Cheslie Kryst, the trailblazing former Miss USA who took her own life at age 30 in January 2022, was working on a memoir prior to her tragic death exploring her private struggles with depression. Kryst made history as the oldest woman ever crowned Miss USA in 2019 at age 28. Kryst was battling intense inner pain.

She was smiling and bubbly and happy, and that was her true self, but there was still a lot of pain that she felt. Simpkins her mother - shared that when she first learned Kryst was gone, part of her thought she would die from a broken heart. While grieving, she faced criticism from some on social media, asking why she was unaware of her daughter's struggles or why she wasn’t able to save her, given their close relationship. Her daughter had fought for many years, and no one was to blame. As a mother, “you want to fight every battle, and you want your children to know, ‘I got your back,'” she said. “But mental illness is a fight you can’t fight for your child.

  • Black history of the Kentucky Derby
    2025/05/03

Did you know, marking its 151st anniversary known as the Super bowl of U.S. horse racing is upon us, what about its history? Many are unaware that the Kentucky Derby was dominated by Men of color in its inception. That's right in the infant stages of the Derby African Americans jockeys were very prevalent. I really love horses their beauty and power. As do a lot of people.

On opening day, May 17th of 1875, Oliver Lewis, at 19 years old, rode the colt Aristides to a record-setting victory. In the late 1800s Black jockeys excelled, winning six Derbies, one Preakness and three Belmont Stakes. Known as the Triple Crown.

Black jockeys won more than half of the first 25 running’s of the Kentucky Derby. But in the 1890s – as Jim Crow laws destroyed gains men of color had made since emancipation – they ended up losing their jobs.

Historical trauma refers to the cumulative emotional and psychological impact of traumatic events experienced by a group over generations. For Black Americans this trauma is not just in the past; it continues to affect mental health today. Because the legendary "cowboys" were so good at their craft and in their preparation to win, whites were intimidated and decide that blacks no longer belong.

Anxiety can trigger depression and other behavioral physical and mental health issues. It is especially hard if you are dealing with other personal, work, relationship, or family-related issues. It is okay to ask for help.

  • Psychology and Theology Intergrated -UNITY
    2025/04/19

An attempt to integrate Psychology and Theology is a daunting task because of the divergent approaches of these academic disciplines. We need to be aware of psychologists’ underlying assumptions, including ethical and metaphysical assumptions, critiquing those assumptions.

Your thoughts and beliefs determine your reality. The problem of integration is this: To integrate Christianity with Psychology one has to convert or reduce biblical wisdom (mind of Christ) to Theology, or a theory about the basis and purpose of living. But the Bible does not address the head, but the heart. Correct, I make an attempt to address both, in the short of the podcast.

Many years of research has proving how one thinks, feels, believes and expects is important, if not more so than what one does. Beyond mere intellectual interest one motivation for integration is the sense that one's personal integrity is at stake. In spite of some obvious risks, I still believe in ‘integrative’ work because exploring different intersections between faith and any type of learning, and experimenting with integrative processes of this kind, is desirable. My Christian convictions will therefore represent one of integration of Theology and Psychology (theory of personality) unavoidably from the Christian point of view.
