  • Ep. 290: Merry Christmas Everyone
    2024/12/25

Marcus Ramtohul is a musician, actor, model, husband, father, and . . . a GTD trainer! You'll hear him describe his move from a paper-based system to digital, as his life and responsibilities grew more complex in the last ten years. His creativity and humor shine through as he describes encouraging family and colleagues to adopt any of the GTD best practices. He talks about the subtlety of correctly defining next actions, assigning contexts, his customized contexts, and much more.

You can find out more about Marcus, including his band and TV show, on his website.

His band Andy and the Odd Socks have just released BBC Children In Need's first ever Christmas charity single - a cover of "Merry Christmas Everyone" by Shakin' Stevens. And Shaky himself even features in the music video! You can buy the song here. A minimum of 40p from every download goes directly to the Children In Need charity and the money raised can help improve the lives of disadvantaged children and young people around the UK.

If you are in the UK you can watch the Andy and the Band Christmas special on BBC iPlayer and on CBBC on Christmas Day.

You can watch a video version of this conversation from December 2021 at GTD Connect®.

  • Ep. 289: Slice of GTD Life with Jerry Kolber
    2024/12/18

Jerry Kolber really knows his GTD. He began his journey with a paper system, then was an early adopter of the Palm Pilot and later Palm devices, using Life Balance. He has steadily upgraded his system with newer apps, most recently OmniFocus and Things. With each of these tools, he has maintained a deep commitment to refining his approach to productivity and mindfulness. That has helped with his busy career in media production, including work on groundbreaking shows like "Sex and the City," "Queer Eye," and as the Emmy-nominated creator of "Brain Games" and "Brainchild." You can read his bio and find out more about his projects on the Atomic Entertainment website.

You can watch this entire conversation from August 2024 in its entirety over at GTD Connect.

  • Ep. 285: Natural Planning Model
    2024/11/20

This webinar recording gives you hands-on practice with David Allen's instinctual, five-stage thought process for naturally planning your projects. You'll learn by taking several projects through defining purpose and principles, envisioning the outcome, brainstorming, organizing, and identifying next actions. The silent working time for planning has been edited out, so you can simply pause and take as long as you want for each segment.

For your reference, the model is detailed on pages 10-11 in the GTD Methodology Guides, available at the top of the Tools and Templates section of the GTD Connect Document Library.

There were two other references that you may find useful. Early in the webinar, we talk about the first stage of the Natural Planning Model, the "why" of any project. We mentioned Simon Sinek's book, Start with WHY. Later in the webinar, we mentioned Structured Decision Making, which you can find information and books about in a web search.

You can watch this webinar from May 2024 in its entirety over at GTD Connect.

  • Ep. 284: The Urge to Change the Tool
    2024/11/13

In our most recent Office Hour, we considered several questions. How to know when the urge to change the tool is because of a limitation with the current tool, or when it is covering a GTD implementation issue? How far ahead can we know what potential actions a project will have, beyond the one next action? When to create sub-categories within a larger Read/Review category?
