  • Episode 20: Fewer sales of RPGs? Games you always win and Be Like a Crow review
    2024/12/11

Are we seeing a decrease in the sales of RPGs? Over the last few weeks, a lot of small publishers have ceased to exist from the DMs Guild. In the region of 500. Given the thousands of people there, it doesn’t sound like much, but how many people are leaving and how many people just publish one product and then give up?

On part two, we discuss if games in which you discover a winning strategy that works every time and allows you to win every game are good games. Are you interested in playing a game you know you’re going to win even before you start playing?

And last, but not least, a review of Be like a Crow, a solo journaling RPG by Kritical Kit that puts the players in the wings of crows, rooks and ravens in a variety of environments, from high fantasy to political intrigue in the medieval British Court.

  • Evil Genius Games goes crypto (again!), Dragonmeet, Muskbro and AI Podcasts
    2024/12/06

This episode of the GMS Magazine podcast kicks off with host Paco Garcia and co-host Chris from Dias XMachina chatting about Paco's recent trip to Dragonmeet in London.

After the Dragon Meet discussion, the hosts switch gears to talk about some recent news in the tabletop roleplaying game industry, starting with an investment announcement from Evil Genius Games. Evil Genius Games has secured funding from Alumni Ventures to develop a "games as a service" platform.

Paco and Chris turn their attention to everyone's (least) favorite billionaire, Elon Musk, and his recent comments about potentially buying Hasbro.

Moving on from billionaire shenanigans, Kickstarter projects that seems to be going nowhere.

Chris also shares his experience with Notebook LM, a Google tool that can generate podcasts from text. This leads to a discussion about the potential dangers of AI-generated content and the importance of verifying information.

Finally, Chris wraps up the episode with a review of the board game "Super Motherload". He describes the gameplay, highlighting its unique deck-building mechanics and "conveyor belt" board.
