  • Hello, family! My name is Matthew Curtis, and I want to welcome you to the Foundational Truths for Life Podcast. When I was four and five years old, I had a series of divine experiences with God where I received my call to preach and teach the Good News of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Eventually, the call of God was burning so fervently inside of me that I made the decision to wholeheartedly commit my life to Jesus and the ministry He was calling me to. But four years into ministry, the Lord gave me a clear revelation of how much I didn't know. I was divinely inspired to immerse myself in the Word of God and in communion with Him so that I might fulfill His plan for my life and finish my course with joy! For His Kingdom's sake! For His people's sake! Being a preacher's kid, I was in church at least 3-5 times per week growing up, but many times, 5-7 days a week! My parents were also missionaries to Honduras, Central America, and we even lived there for a short time. Needless to say, I heard a lot of preaching and teaching; I'd witnessed many things. I heard good and encouraging sermons, bad and discouraging sermons, every kind of sermon you could think of, and every kind of sermon you shouldn't think of! Because of this, I had developed a skewed and one-sided version of Scripture and New Testament doctrine in many areas. While there were a lot of magnificent things I learned and received, I wasn't ever taught the foundational principles of any Scriptural truth. I realized I was like the man in the Bible who built his house on the sand instead of the solid rock foundation of Christ, the living Word. As a result, for the last nineteen years, I've prepared my heart to seek the Lord and to search the Scriptures, believing the Holy Spirit to uncover the precious foundational truths of Christian living that I'm now privileged to share with you in the podcast. As the Lord helps us, some of the many topics we'll discuss are... * How to Spend Time with God * Foundational Truths for Your Marriage and Family * How to Be a Doer of Jesus' Love Command * Kingdom of God Finances * The First Principles of Jesus' Teachings ...and much more. I invite you to come with me on a journey through the Bible as we discover and uncover foundations of Scriptural truth, principles based on the love of God and faith towards God, and by His grace, we'll learn how to practically apply them to our lives today in Christ.

    Consider this: to the non-builder, most of the emphasis and excitement is focused on the design of the house, the building, or the structure they're looking to build. But how much attention and consideration is given to its foundation? When dreams are dreamt, are they ever about building the foundation of their dreams? Does the planning and the laying of the foundation ever outvalue or at least balance the esteem given to the architectural design, the interior decorations, or whether there's enough money to build out the man cave or that dream kitchen with its high-end appliances?

    In our world, it's assumed that the builder knows how to plan, prepare, and build the necessary foundation while we get to focus on the more "important stuff." But in the Kingdom of God, the responsibility of building the foundation has been entrusted to us. We are the builders, and the completion of the foundation is in our hands.

    I invite you to join me on a journey through Scripture, where we will discover how the spiritual foundation we choose to lay sets the limits for the kind of structure we can build.

    In 1 Corinthians chapter 3, Paul stated that he was given the grace to be a wise master builder. But directly after that, Paul indicated he used that God-given grace to lay, or in other words, build a foundation. However, this foundation wasn't a physical foundation, it was a spiritual foundation! But where did Paul learn how to lay a spiritual foundation? From the One Who gave him the grace!
