We’re diving deep into the dark waters of Leech Lake—not the one in Minnesota (though we’ll explore that later), but the mysterious and enchanted lake from the Practical Magic book series. In Alice Hoffman’s story, this version of Leech Lake resides in Massachusetts. It’s said to be home to a serpent-like water creature that Faith Owens befriends—a being cloaked in shadow and folklore.
The Owens women often swim in its waters, though they’re never able to dive beneath the surface, only float. It’s also aplace marked by tragedy, with more than one drowning said to have occurred there.
But our journey doesn’t end with Leech Lake. We’ll be castingour net wider to explore legendary sea serpents and monsters from across cultures and mythologies—from the elusive Loch Ness Monster to the ancient and fearsome Leviathan... And also with Leviathan, comes yet another unexpected Practical Magic Soundtrack connection!
The Magnolia Street Podcast intends to discuss the movie, “Practical Magic” in its entirety. This will evidently result in spoilers and it is recommended that you watch and or read the following. Alice Hoffman’s: Practical Magic, Rules of Magic, Magic Lessons, Book of Magic.
