Welcome to The Daily Quote – a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, for April 10th.
Now, you might be listening to this in your pajamas, coffee in hand, maybe even from the comfort of your bed. And if so, you’re right on theme—because today is Global Work From Home Day.
Since COVID-19 turned the world upside down, remote work went from a rare perk to the new normal. What started as a necessity quickly proved that productivity doesn’t need a cubicle—and that meetings can, in fact, be emails. Now, many people have swapped long commutes for short walks to the fridge, and honestly, no one's looking back.
To celebrate the cozy, chaotic beauty of remote work, I’ve chosen a quote from none other than the legendary Dolly Parton, who once said:
“Never get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.”Now, Dolly probably wasn’t Zoom-fatigued or answering Slack messages in her kitchen when she said this, but the sentiment still hits home—literally. Working from home can be a gift—a chance to break free from the 9-to-5 hamster wheel and reclaim a little bit of your day. But even from the couch, it’s easy to get caught in the grind, isn’t it? You blink, and suddenly it’s 6 PM and you haven’t seen the sun… or changed clothes. Dolly’s reminder is timely: your life isn’t just measured by deadlines and deliverables. It’s also about spontaneous lunch breaks, impromptu dance parties between emails, and the joy of wearing socks that don’t match—because who’s going to know?
I had a manager once who always wore mismatched socks... just because. Today, on Global Work From Home Day, let yourself breathe. Enjoy the freedom. Be productive, sure—but don’t forget to live a little in between the spreadsheets.
I was listening to a podcast where they were talking about the future of work and one of them said that they wanted to bring their staff back to the office because the in person synergy is much better. But he said he was scared to do it because he feared many employees would quit. He proposed the solution was to use co-working spaces to allow people to go in person locally when they wanted to connect in person. Anyway... That’s your dose of inspiration for April 10th. I’m Andrew McGivern signing off for today, I hope you take Dolly’s words with you today, whether you're hustling from your home office… or from the couch. I’ll catch you tomorrow, same pod time, same pod station with another Daily Quote.
