  • How to Really Have Freedom - March 30, 2025
    2025/03/30
The CrossHow to Really Have FreedomJon FredricksToday's Scripture: Luke 23:32-34 NIV__________ Luke 23:32-34 NIV32 Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed. 33 When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left. 34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots. Revelation 1:5 NIVand from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, John 8:34 NIVJesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.” Romans 7:21-24 NIVSo I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; 23 but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Romans 6:6 NIVFor we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— Romans 6:4, 14 NIV4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.14 For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace. 1) HATE THE UGLYIsaiah 53:3 NIVHe was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. Romans 8:6 ESV For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. Galatians 5:24 ESV And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 2) REACH OUT FOR THE IMPOSSIBLEJohn 3:16 NIV16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Acts 16:29-31 NIV29 The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas. 30 He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.” 3) WASH THE STAIN WITH HIS WORDEphesians 5:25-26 NIV25 … Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, Romans 12:2 NIVDo not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. 4) DEPEND ON HIS SPIRIT WHO IS IN YOU!John 16:7, 13 NIV7 But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. Romans 8:5 ESVFor those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. Galatians 5:16 ESVBut I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 5) WALK IT OUT WHILE HE WORKS MIRACLESPhilippians 1:6 NIV6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 2:12 NIVDo Everything Without Grumbling12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling.

  • The Promised One - March 23, 2025

The CrossThe Promised OneJon FredricksToday's Scripture: Luke 23:1-31 NIV__________ Luke 23:1-31 NIVThen the whole assembly rose and led him off to Pilate. 2 And they began to accuse him, saying, “We have found this man subverting our nation. He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar and claims to be Messiah, a king.”3 So Pilate asked Jesus, “Are you the king of the Jews?”“You have said so,” Jesus replied.4 Then Pilate announced to the chief priests and the crowd, “I find no basis for a charge against this man.”5 But they insisted, “He stirs up the people all over Judea by his teaching. He started in Galilee and has come all the way here.”6 On hearing this, Pilate asked if the man was a Galilean. 7 When he learned that Jesus was under Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time.8 When Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased, because for a long time he had been wanting to see him. From what he had heard about him, he hoped to see him perform a sign of some sort. 9 He plied him with many questions, but Jesus gave him no answer. 10 The chief priests and the teachers of the law were standing there, vehemently accusing him. 11 Then Herod and his soldiers ridiculed and mocked him. Dressing him in an elegant robe, they sent him back to Pilate. 12 That day Herod and Pilate became friends—before this they had been enemies.13 Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers and the people, 14 and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined him in your presence and have found no basis for your charges against him. 15 Neither has Herod, for he sent him back to us; as you can see, he has done nothing to deserve death.16 Therefore, I will punish him and then release him.” [17]18 But the whole crowd shouted, “Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us!” 19 (Barabbas had been thrown into prison for an insurrection in the city, and for murder.)20 Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate appealed to them again. 21 But they kept shouting, “Crucify him! Crucify him!”22 For the third time he spoke to them: “Why? What crime has this man committed? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore I will have him punished and then release him.”23 But with loud shouts they insistently demanded that he be crucified, and their shouts prevailed. 24 So Pilate decided to grant their demand. 25 He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, the one they asked for, and surrendered Jesus to their will. The Crucifixion of Jesus26 As the soldiers led him away, they seized Simon from Cyrene, who was on his way in from the country, and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus. 27 A large number of people followed him, including women who mourned and wailed for him. 28 Jesus turned and said to them, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children. 29 For the time will come when you will say, ‘Blessed are the childless women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’ 30 Then“‘they will say to the mountains, “Fall on us!”and to the hills, “Cover us!”’31 For if people do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?” 1) THE CROSS HAS LONG BEEN THE HEART OF GODIsaiah 53:1-10 NIV 2) THE MISSION OF THE CROSS IS LOUDLY PROCLAIMED THROUGH CHANGED LIVESJohn 14:10-11 NIV John 13:34-35 NIV34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Acts 1:8 NIV8… you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses Luke 19:40 NIV“I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” 3) THE MESSAGE OF THE CROSS IS ONLY RECEIVED WITH A HUNGRY HEARTMatthew 27:54 NIV Luke 5:31-32 NIV Matthew 11:28 NIV

Becoming GreatWake Up And PrayJon FredricksToday's Scripture: Luke 22:39-46 NIV__________ Luke 22:39-46 NIVJesus Prays on the Mount of Olives39 Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. 40 On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” 41 He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, 42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” 43 An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. 44 And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. 45 When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. 46 “Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.” Proverbs 8:34 NIVBlessed are those who listen to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway. James 5:16b NIV…The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. Ezekiel 22:30 NIV“I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one. 1) TAKE SOME TIME OUTLuke 22:41 NIV41 He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, Luke 5:16 NIVBut Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed. Psalm 46:10 NASB10 “Stop striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted on the earth.” Matthew 6:6 NIVBut when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 2) WORSHIP GOD WHO IS BIGGER THAN THIS THINGLuke 22:42 NIV42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” Joshua 6:6-11 NIV6 So Joshua son of Nun called the priests and said to them, “Take up the ark of the covenant of the Lord and have seven priests carry trumpets in front of it.” 7 And he ordered the army, “Advance! March around the city, with an armed guard going ahead of the ark of the Lord.”8 When Joshua had spoken to the people, the seven priests carrying the seven trumpets before the Lord went forward, blowing their trumpets, and the ark of the Lord’s covenant followed them. 9 The armed guard marched ahead of the priests who blew the trumpets, and the rear guard followed the ark. All this time the trumpets were sounding. 10 But Joshua had commanded the army, “Do not give a war cry, do not raise your voices, do not say a word until the day I tell you to shout. Then shout!” 11 So he had the ark of the Lord carried around the city, circling it once. Then the army returned to camp and spent the night there. Matthew 4:10 NIVJesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’” 1 Peter 2:9 NIVBut you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 3) BRING YOUR LISTLuke 22:42-43 NIV42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” 43 An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. James 4:2 NIVYou desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. Matthew 7:7-9 NIV 4) TURN IT AROUNDLuke 22:44-46 NIV44 And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. 45 When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. 46 “Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV
