  • 7. How to Keep the Spark Alive After Baby
    2025/06/03

Marriage is hard already, and then you have a baby. Every couple I know STRUGGLES after the baby is born, sometimes for a loooooong time. Several of my friends are facing divorce after 2-3 years of having a baby, which is awful. Serenity and I are far from perfect, but considering how we’re basically opposite people, run a business together, and have a child, we do pretty amazing.

In this episode, I discuss the primary ways we’ve kept our spark alive despite all the stress. And specifically what I specifically do to ensure the connection. I talk about creating safety, so intimacy can actually happen, how we use the Fair Play method to share chores evenly, and why asking for help doesn’t mean you’ve failed—it means you care.

This episode is for the dads who want to be better husbands—not just better diaper changers. If you're tired, disconnected, or just feel like roommates lately, this one’s for you.

    In this episode, we discuss:

    • How can couples reconnect emotionally after having a baby?

    • What’s the role of emotional safety in post-baby intimacy?

    • How do you divide household tasks fairly in modern parenting?

    • Is it normal to schedule intimacy in a marriage?

    • When should couples seek relationship coaching or therapy?

  • 6. Mighty Mushrooms that hack parenting and eat diapers with Tero Isokauppila
    2025/05/27

Joe Carr sits down with Tero Isokauppila for a deep dive into fatherhood, entrepreneurship, and sustainability. Tero shares how a profound psychedelic experience solidified his desire to become a dad and how he and his wife developed their parenting philosophy before their first child was even born. From the decision to have a home birth to understanding the importance of postpartum recovery, Tero unpacks the emotional and physical shifts of early parenthood.

But this episode isn’t just about parenting—it’s about pushing boundaries in sustainability and reimagining parenthood as a holistic, intentional experience. Tero introduces his game-changing innovation, Hiro Diapers, designed with patented fungal technology to help break down plastic waste. He also explains how adaptogenic mushrooms can be the ultimate superfood for both kids and parents, tackling gut health, immunity, and stress relief.

    In this episode, we discuss:

    • What are the benefits of a home birth vs. a hospital birth?

    • How do adaptogenic mushrooms support pregnancy and child health?

    • What’s the difference between U.S. and Europe on birth and parenting styles?

    • To circumcise or not?

    • What is minimalism and how can it be applied to parenting?

  • 5. Everything Dads Need to Know about Postpartum Depression and Anxiety
    2025/05/20

My wife Serenity struggled with postpartum anxiety, but neither of us knew what that was. She was having a rough time, but I didn’t know if that was normal, or what to do about it. Learning about Postpartum Depression and Anxiety helped us understand what was happening for her and what to do about it.

This episode is deeply personal. May is Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month, and I want to talk about what can happen for women after they give birth—their brain physically changes, their emotions shift, their anxiety can creep in at 2 a.m. when the house is quiet but she still can’t sleep. 1 in 7 women experience postpartum depression and even more have postpartum anxiety. Most dads have no idea what to look for or how to help, I sure didn’t.

So here I felt compelled to share what I’ve learned about how to identify these conditions and what to do about them such as, listening without fixing, setting up real postpartum support plan (yes, with spreadsheets), and how sharing night feedings saved our sanity. From the way motherhood physically rewires a woman’s brain to the quiet moments when you realize she hasn’t had a minute alone in days—this is what we need to talk more about.

If you’re a dad, a partner, or just want to show up better for the moms in your life—this one’s for you.

    In this episode, we discuss:

    • What are the real signs of postpartum depression and anxiety?

    • How does a woman’s brain change after childbirth?

    • How do I respond to my partner’s seemingly irrational fears?

    • What is the Fair Play system of household management and how can it saved my relationship?

    • How can dads set up a postpartum support system that actually works?

    • How and when do I seek professional help?
