    Welcome to another Cinema Sounds & Secrets Tribute episode! This week Janet, John, (and Pen) explore the extensive career (spanning over seven decades) of the truly remarkable British actress Maggie Smith. Born on December 28, 1934, in Ilford Essex, England, despite never having gone to the theater and being considered "too common" to be onstage, Smith grew up with a love for Shakespeare and was encouraged to act by her English teacher. In 1952, at 17 years old, her career began as Viola in Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night.” Smith received international fame for her role as Violet Crawley in Downton Abbey (2010–2015) and is known for films including Othello (1965), The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1969), Travels with My Aunt (1972), California Suite (1978) A Room with a View (1985), Gosford Park (2001), the Harry Potter film series (2001–2011), Death on the Nile (1978), Hook (1991), Sister Act (1992), The Secret Garden (1993), The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2012), Quartet (2012) The Lady in the Van (2015) and more.

    Welcome to another Cinema Sounds & Secrets Tribute episode! This week Janet, John, (and Pen) explore the life and career of Canadian filmmaker Norman Jewison. Born in 1926 in Toronto, Jewison acted out movies as a boy and was involved in school productions at a young age. He studied at the Royal Conservatory and worked as a radio actor before he began writing, directing, and producing shows for the network CBC. He made his feature film debut in 1962 and began directing shortly after. He’s known for films like The Cincinnati Kid (1965), The Russians Are Coming (1966), The Thomas Crown Affair (1968), Fiddler on the Roof (1971), Jesus Christ Superstar (1973), Rollerball (1975), Justice for All (1979), A Soldier's Story (1984), Agnes of God (1985), Moonstruck (1987) The Hurricane (1999), and more, receiving Academy Award nominations for best director three separate times.

Born in Austin Texas in 1932, Coleman excelled at tennis, playing across Europe and serving in the army before deciding to pursue acting. He appeared in over 175 films and television programs, recognized for comedic and dramatic roles, including 9 to 5 (1980), On Golden Pond (1981), Tootsie (1982), WarGames (1983), Cloak & Dagger (1984), and You've Got Mail (1998).
