Mackie has a big shield to tout as one of the Avengers big 3 and their leader. In addition, Chris Evans portrayal of Steve Rogers is a fan favorite, but Marvel seemed poised to give Mackie a space to build from. Instead of dredging up a completely obscure Cap villain, they laid it out that Red Hulk was going to be part of the film.
