Happy birthday Trish in New York!

Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is a cool 23 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning.

In Rugby Union: Dr. Brett Robinson (Australia) has been elected as the new Chair of World Rugby at the 2024 Interim meeting of Council in Dublin, Ireland.
    · Jonathan Webb (England) was elected Vice-Chair from the six representatives who were elected to the Executive Board. They are:
    · Northern hemisphere high performance unions (2): Susan Carty (Ireland), Jonathan Webb (England)
    · Southern hemisphere: Mark Alexander (South Africa), Bart Campbell (New Zealand)
    · Non high performance Union (1): Sally Dennis (Canada)
    · Region (1): Herbert Mensah (Rugby Africa)
In Rugby League: Tongan star Addin Fonua-Blake is a chance to make history as the first player from a Pacific Island country to win the IRL Golden Boot, awarded to the best player in sanctioned rugby league international matches each year, after the short list for the 2024 award, was cut down to six from 17 contenders, chosen by members of the international media.

Fonua-Blake is joined by Australian trio Isaah Yeo, Harry Grant and Tom Trbojevic, New Zealand rookie Keano Kini and England centre Herbie Farnworth.

The Men’s 2024 IRL Golden Boot is chosen by Golden Cap recipients Darren Lockyer (Australia), James Graham (England) and Petero Civoniceva (Australia/Fiji), who are among just nine players to have played 50 internationals.

The winner of the 2024 IRL Golden Boot award will be announced in early December.

In Football: England looked good in their 3-0 win over Greece in Athens on Thursday - avenging their 2-1 defeat they suffered at Wembley last month, to go top of their Nations League group, after goals from Ollie Watkins, debutant Curtis Jones and an own goal.

Now for Ireland at Wembley on Sunday.

In Sports Biz: Caitlin Clark joked she would spend her WNBA offseason trying to become a professional golfer.

As she ponders a “Lionel Messi–like,” seven-figure offer to play in the new “Unrivaled 3-on-3” Women’s basketball league that will begin in January, Clark is getting the chance to show off her golf skills on the LPGA Tour, where she’s competing in a pro-am event in Tampa Bay.

The tournament has seen a big boost in interest and ticket sales since confirmation of Clark’s participation last month.

In Combat Sports: Someone is gonna die after Iron Mike Tyson and Jake Paul walk out for their fight at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas around 4pm Fiji Time today.

This after Tyson slapped Paul’s face during their weigh-in yesterday and threatened to kill him in the ring today!

    Someone please ring 911.

And that’s our final wrap Peeps!

This is the last podcast of Breakfast Bites.

Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 39 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Friday morning 15 November 2024.

Happy birthday Troy – husband of Clarissa.

Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is crazy warm 24 degrees Celsius again at 5am this morning.

In Rugby Union: Are you locked in for all the big rugby union Tests this weekend in Europe?

So, our world famous tips are: Ireland to argiebargie Argentina, Scotland to slomo Portugal, South Africa to debrexit England, the New Zealand All Blacks to franjelico France, Fiji to frisco Spain, Romania to robocop Canada and Tonga to MAGA USA in France.

In Rugby League: “I am surprised that they’re not trying to sign Cristiano Ronaldo and Tom Brady,” Peter V’landys said in response to a claim by former Rugby Australia boss, Hamish McLennan that Nathan Cleary and Payne Haas, plus a host of other NRL stars, were keen to make a code switch in May 2025.

This, after Joseph Suaalii snared a three-year contract worth an eye-watering A$5Million to switch codes.

“I would be more concerned if I was them, with their A$80M worth of debt that they have created, which puts the whole game in financial turmoil.”

In Football: Harry Kane says he is disappointed by the high number of withdrawals from the England squad this week, insisting the national team must come first.

Eight players withdrew from England’s initial 26-man squad for their Nations League game in Athens, including Declan Rice, Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka and Cole Palmer.

The Euro 2024 runners-up head to Greece for Thursday’s must-win Nations League match before a Wembley meeting with Ireland on Sunday.

In Sports Biz: While Disney reported US$22.6Billion in total revenue for its fiscal fourth quarter, up 6% from the comparable period a year ago and beating analyst projections.

Operating income rose 23% to US$3.7B, boosted significantly by the company’s entertainment division.

Their sports division, led by ESPN, had a flat revenue figure of US$3.9B, and operating income fell 5% to US$929Million, with higher programming and production costs related to college football cutting into earnings.

On both a quarterly and annual basis, ESPN’s domestic operations remain profitable while its international activities are a drag on the balance sheet.

ESPN+ subscriptions increased 3% to 25.6 million, restoring a growth pattern to the streaming platform.

ESPN+ also posted its second straight quarter of profitability.

In Combat Sports: Almost 20 years after his last professional fight, Iron Mike Tyson is returning to the ring in this Saturday’s hyped showdown against Jake Paul in an exhibition boxing match, featuring six other fights on the undercard from 1pm.

Tyson and Paul are expected to walk out around 4pm Fiji time, which you can catch live and exclusive on Netflix at no extra charge.

Let’s get ready to call 911 for an ambulance!

Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 38 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Thursday morning 14 November 2024.

Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is crazy warm 24 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning.

In Rugby Union: Are you locked in for all the big rugby union Tests this weekend in Europe: Ireland vs Argentina, Scotland vs Portugal, England vs South Africa, France vs New Zealand, Spain vs Fiji, Romania vs Canada and USA vs Tonga in France.

In Rugby League: Former Fiji Bati and NRL halfback, Brandon Wakeham has had all drug charges levelled against him dropped.

Wakeham was arrested in the carpark of Brookvale Oval in May and charged with taking part in the supply of prohibited drugs and participating in a criminal group.

Now according to the SMH, all charges were dropped during a hearing at the Sydney Downing Centre Courts on Tuesday.

“Throughout this process, Brandon has maintained his innocence and we fought for him with the same belief,” his lawyer said.

“Today’s result, with the charges withdrawn and dismissed against him, is a vindication for Brandon who now seeks to rebuild his life, having endured a very difficult time.”

The 25-year-old has played 40 NRL games at the Bulldogs and Tigers, plus some games for the Fiji Bati.

In Football: “I feel ready for the new challenge. I’m not naive, I know that it’s going to be very, very different, very tough but I’m ready,” and with that, Ruben Amorim jetted to Britain from Portugal on Monday to begin his new mission – to save Manchester United.

The former Sporting Lisbon boss is Man U’s sixth appointment since the end of Sir Alex Ferguson’s trophy-filled 27-year-reign in 2013.

United are 13th in the Premier League table after a poor start to the season but are only four points off the top four.

Amorim’s first match in charge will be away at Ipswich on 24 November, following the current international break.

In Sports Biz: The latest baseball sensation out of Japan - Roki Sasaki is one of the most talented pitchers on the planet.

He’s a 23-year-old who has dominated hitters in Japan for four years with a fastball touching 164Km per hour.

He could wait two years and potentially sign a deal exceeding US$300Million like Yoshinobu Yamamoto did last year.

Instead, he’s coming stateside now—where any team can sign him for peanuts, and get six years of discounted control.

In Combat Sports: Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul’s exhibition boxing match on Saturday from 1pm will feature six other fights on the undercard:
Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano –Super-lightweight
Mario Barrios vs Abel Ramos – Welterweight
Neeraj Goyat vs Whindersson Nunes – Super-middleweight
Shadasia Green vs Melinda Watpool – Super-middleweight
Lucas Bahdi vs Armando Casamonica – Super lightweight
Bruce Carrington vs Dana Coolwell – Featherweight

Some really looking names in that line up.

They sound like friends of Jake Paul.

Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 37 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Tuesday morning 12 November 2024.

    Happy Birthday Stuart Gow!

Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is cool 21 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning.

In Rugby Union: If you think that Joseph Suaalii was good in his Test rugby union debut at Twickenham, imagine if the NRL’s top players played a rugby union game against the Wallabies: Nathan Cleary, Jahrome Hughes, Kalyn Ponga, Jarome Luai, Isaah Yeo, Cameron Munster, Harry Grant, Tom Trbojevic, Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Stephen Crichton, Dylan Edwards, Tom Dearden, Mitchell Moses, James Tedesco, Matt Burton, Latrell Mitchell, Joseph Tapine, Payne Haas, Reece Walsh and Haumole Olakau’atu.

In Football: Pep Guardiola has suffered four consecutive losses for the first time in his managerial career as Manchester City’s dismal spell hit a new low with a late collapse in their 2-1 loss at Brighton.

With just 12 minutes left, Guardiola’s troubled side were clinging onto the lead given to them by Erling Haaland in the first half.

But they collapsed in the closing stages as Joao Pedro equalised before Matt O’Riley bagged Brighton’s winner seven minutes from full-time.

In the NBA: Viewership numbers for the 2024 NBA season have started slowly with double-digit declines for its nationally televised games through the first two weeks, driven by star player absences and competition from the NFL and the just-completed, MLB World Series.

Attention to the NBA’s lengthy regular-season has diminished over recent years, but the NBA is hoping the solution is the Emirates NBA Cup, the second run of their in-season tournament that starts on 12 November.

In Combat Sports: The Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul’s exhibition boxing match, will be streamed exclusively live on Netflix from the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on 15 November, from 1am GMT, which will be 1pm Fiji time on Saturday 16 November 2024.

It is the first time Netflix is screening a live fight and it is not a pay-per-view event, so Netflix subscribers can watch it free of charge worldwide.

    Happy Armstice Day!

Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is cloudy and 23 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning.

In Rugby Union: Young flyhalf, Caleb Muntz put in a Man-of-the-Match performance for the Fiji Water Flying Fijians 24-19 win over Wales in Cardiff this morning, scoring a try alongside Josua Tuisova and adding four penalties and a conversion for a personal haul of 19 points.

The win came despite Fiji playing with a man down for 59 minutes after Semi Radradra was red carded midway through the first half for a tough call on a dangerous high tackle, chasing a bomb.

    Go Fiji Go.

In other results: South Africa 32-15 Scotland and Tonga 15-25 Romania.

In Rugby League: Tongan supporters flooded CommBank Stadium, Parramatta in a sea of red to see their team produce a second upset in as many weeks following their epic win over New Zealand in Auckland.

The greatest fairy tale of 2024 almost produced a Disney ending with Tonga taking a shock early lead when Sione Katoa finished off some beautiful work on his inside by Isaiya Katoa.

But slick counter-attacking by the Kangaroos enabled them to establish a 20-4 halftime lead.

But no one told the Tongan fans or players that it was over, with back-rowers Haumole Olakau’atu and Eliese Katoa crossing to set up a grandstand finish.

Australia are the Pacific Champions 2024, but a big thank you Tonga for making international rugby league great again.

In Netball: Australia are Fast5 Champions for a third straight year, after coming from a staggering 15 goals down to beat New Zealand in the final in Christchurch yesterday.

The 34-30 win ensured the unbeaten Australians went back-to-back-to-back, but they didn’t have it all their own way in a thrilling decider.

In Football: Man U legend, Ruud Van Nistelrooy insists his coaching future at Manchester United ‘remains open’ and he was not treating his emotional send-off yesterday as goodbye, after his time as interim boss came to a close.

Van Nistelrooy rounded off his four-game spell in charge with a 3-0 win over Leicester City, taking him to three wins and a draw since stepping up after Erik10’s sacking.

The Dutchman received a standing ovation, as he made his way off the pitch and down the tunnel for what could be the final time.

In Combat Sports: Mike Tyson, 58, will return to the ring to face Jake Paul, 27, on Friday night in an exhibition boxing match in Arlington, Texas.

Paul is in the world's Top 50 highest-paid athletes and will add US$39Million from fighting Mike Tyson . . . who is the man behind this circus?

    Happy Birthday Amelia Kauvaka!

Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is a cool 22 degrees Celsius again at 5am this morning.

In Rugby Union: This morning - England 37-42 Australia at Twickenham, Argentina 50-18 Italy and France 52-17 Japan in Paris. Tonga to togopati Romania soon. Yesterday – the All Blacks 23-13 Ireland.

In Rugby League: Tonga has beaten Australia before, but can they make history and beat the World Champions in an international final?

In 2019, Tonga came from behind to upset Australia 12-16 in a boil-over that had Aussie fans crying and their media asking if the Kangaroos took Tonga too lightly.

Fast-forward five years and no one will ever be accused of taking Tonga lightly again, after they upset the Kiwis to advance to the Pacific Championships final.

Tonga can ride the momentum from Addin Fonua-Blake and Jason Taumalolo to make history against Australia.

But their halves Tuimoala Lolohea and Isaiya Katoa are going to have to stand up when it matters in a crucial battle with Australia’s new pair Mitchell Moses and Tom Dearden.

In Football: Dutch police have confirmed that five people were injured during a wave of violence that erupted yesterday in Amsterdam when supporters of the Israeli football Club, Maccabi Tel Aviv stormed through the city, tearing down Palestinian flags on private property and chanting incendiary, anti-Arab slogans.

In a post on X, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned what he described as a “very violent incident against Israeli citizens in Amsterdam.”

He announced the immediate dispatch of two rescue planes to assist Israeli citizens return to Israel.
In Combat Sports: Jeff Fenech knows boxing great, Mike Tyson better than most.

The duo have been friends for more than three decades and the Aussie legend is confident he knows what’s going to happen when Iron Mike makes his comeback to the ring next week.

“I spoke to Mike two days ago,” Fenech told The Daily Telegraph, “It could be over in 40 seconds if he lands one punch.”

Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is 22 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning.

In Rugby Union: Our world famous tips for all the big rugby union Tests this weekend: South Africa to blitzbok Scotland, Ireland to bimbo the All Blacks, Fiji to MAGA Wales, England to digareedoo Australia, Argentina to bambino Italy, France to prius Japan, Tonga to togopati Romania, while Lakapi Samoa play marbles under the mango tree.

In Rugby League: Former Broncos, Dragons and Wallabies star Wendell Sailor has been charged for an alleged assault on two men in a bar in Sydney’s CBD, after NSW Police officers were called to Pappy’s Bar on Erskine Street around 11pm on Wednesday night.

Sailor was reportedly drinking at the bar for several hours before the altercation took place in an alleyway outside.

Sailor was granted conditional bail by police and will face Downing Centre Local Court on 28 November.

Earlier on Wednesday, police took out an apprehended domestic violence order to protect a woman from Sailor in an unrelated incident.

Now 50 years old, Sailor scored 127 tries in 222 NRL games for the Broncos and Dragons from 1996 to 2009 and won NRL premierships with Brisbane in 1997, 1998 and 2000.

Sailor also scored 13 tries in 37 Tests for the Wallabies and played in the 2003 Rugby World Cup final loss to England.

In Football: Key UEFA Champions League scores from yesterday: Club Brugge 1-0 Aston Villa, Shatkhar 2-1 Young Boys, Bayern Munich 1-0 Benfica, Paris 2-1 Atleti, Inter 1-0 Arsenal, Feyenoord 1-3 Salsburg and Crvena Zvezda 2-5 Barcelona.

In Combat Sports: According to official ticket partners Seatgeek, Tyson vs Paul is on course to have thousands of empty seats on fight night.

At present, the titanic-boxing exhibition will fall way short of the expected 70,000-plus attendance, unless a miracle occurs in the next week.

Ticket prices have capitulated by half across all categories with some as low as US$30.

In Sports Biz: The Saudi Pro League, which spent US$1Billion in the summer of 2023 to recruit some of football’s biggest global superstars, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, has also recorded underwhelming attendance numbers at games.

The average attendance for the SPL for the 2024–2025 season is less than 8500 fans per game.

In Rugby League: Tonga Captain Jason Taumalolo was one of the first high profile stars to switch allegiance to his native homeland and now a sea of red are backing them to win the Pacific Championships final.

Taumaolo had played 10 Tests for New Zealand when in 2017 he chose to defect to Tonga and it opened the floodgates as Andrew Fifita, Siosiua Taukeiaho and a blaze of other stars followed.

Two years later in 2019 Tonga beat Australia for the first time ever and last week they beat Taumalolo’s former team, the NZ Kiwis to advance to the Pacific Championships final against the Kangaroos.

In Football: Key games from the UEFA Champions League today: Club Brugge vs Aston Villa, Shatkhar vs Young Boys, Bayern Munich vs Benfica, Paris vs Atleti, Inter vs Arsenal, Feyenoord vs Salsburg and Crvena Zvezda vs Barcelona.

Sunday’s matches played at the King Saud University Indoor Arena, featuring World No. 2 Iga Świątek against 2024 Wimbledon Champion Barbora Krejčíková and a showdown of US stars, Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula, only drew 400 fans, according to The Athletic.
