  • The Mallory Legacy: Building Strong Sons Through Faith
    2025/06/24

Send us a comment about the Be a Baller Podcast Episode. Thanks for support.

Scott Mallory grew up in the "Mallory Nation of Men" who loved both the Lord and football, Scott witnessed firsthand how shared passions create pathways for deeper connection. Scott stands at a remarkable vantage point—the middle link in a five-generation chain of faithful men. Looking back to his grandfather and forward to his grandsons, he offers unique insights into building a legacy that transcends time.

His family's annual Fourth of July gatherings became more than mere celebrations—they were intentional traditions that strengthened bonds across generations. This commitment to family unity provided the foundation upon which their shared faith could flourish.

While Scott met Jesus as a young boy, it wasn't until his twenties that he made the conscious decision to truly follow Christ rather than simply obey religious rules. This transformation shaped his entire approach to manhood and fatherhood. Now co-founder of Fort Columbus and Pray for Ohio ministries, Scott works to activate believers to serve their communities as a unified body of Christ.

The wisdom Scott shares about fatherhood is both simple and profound: model authentic faith, love your wife well, maintain integrity, and abide in Christ. His favorite image for spiritual growth comes from John 15—staying connected to Jesus as branches to a vine, drawing life from that relationship rather than striving in our own strength. This principle requires humility and the willingness to surrender control—qualities essential for effective fatherhood.

Scott's transparency about his own journey reveals valuable lessons. Looking back, he urges fathers to slow down and be fully present with their children: "Sit down and listen, wrestle a bit more with those boys, laugh a little longer, because life will happen. You don't need to get there. Be present for the day." His three successful sons—Isaac, Noah, and Peter—stand as testament to these principles in action.

Whether you're just beginning your fatherhood journey or looking to strengthen your family's legacy, Scott's five-generation perspective offers timeless wisdom for raising children who will continue passing the torch of faith to future generations. Listen now to discover how your daily choices can create a lasting impact that extends far beyond your lifetime.

  • BAB Podcast Fatherhood Series Frank Stretar Building a Legacy: Fatherhood Across Generations

Coach Frank Stretar after raising eight children who've gone on to have families of their own, Frank's impact now touches the lives of 24 grandchildren—and countless young men in Cleveland without father figures. Coach Frank Stretar knows firsthand what it take to build a legacy of fatherhood that spans generations.

Frank takes us on a journey from his Catholic upbringing through decades of youth ministry with FCA, Young Life, and church leadership, before founding Leader Within, a nonprofit equipping young people with essential leadership skills. Along the way, we discover how a single piece of advice changed his approach to fatherhood: "If you're not doing ministry at home, you have no business doing it elsewhere."

The conversation dives deep into the real challenges of parenting that don't end when children leave home. Frank shares heart-wrenching stories of supporting his daughter after she became a young widow with four children, and helping his son through a painful divorce. Through it all, his unwavering faith provides the foundation for healing and growth across generations.

Perhaps most powerful is Frank's reflection on what he'd tell his younger self: "Smile more." Looking back at old photographs, he noticed he wasn't smiling enough—carrying burdens too heavily instead of finding joy in the journey. It's this kind of hard-earned wisdom that makes Frank's story so valuable for fathers at any stage of the journey.

For men balancing career ambitions with family responsibilities, Frank offers practical guidance: "Take more vacations with your family. Make them see they're valued more than your career." And like Caleb in the Bible who remained strong into old age, Frank demonstrates what it means to finish well—physically, spiritually, mentally, and emotionally equipped for the challenges ahead.

Ready to rethink what it means to build a legacy that outlasts you? Listen now and discover why the most important leadership you'll ever provide begins at home.

BAB Podcast, Fatherhood Series Guest Chad Wise shares his approach to raising children with purpose and commitment. Chad's perspective is deeply rooted in his upbringing. Growing up with involved parents and grandparents who emphasized academics and hard work provided him with models of excellence he now passes to his children. His 93-year-old grandfather's perseverance through historical challenges and his late father's emphasis on precision helped shape Chad's understanding of what it means to be a man who leads his family with purpose.

A dedicated husband, father of two, and accomplished pharmaceutical sales leader, Chad reveals how discipline forms the cornerstone of his parenting philosophy—not as punishment, but as unwavering commitment to seeing things through.

"If you commit to something, then we're going to do it," Chad explains, recounting his persistence in teaching his son to read despite frustration. This principle of follow-through shapes every aspect of his approach to family life, from morning drives filled with Bible readings to evening prayers that ground his children in faith.

What stands out most is Chad's intentionality in creating meaningful family routines. Despite frequent business travel, he remains "all in" when present—fully engaged in his children's lives through homework sessions, sports commitments, and family meals he lovingly prepares from scratch. These meals, inspired by his grandmother's cooking, bring together extended family who live nearby, creating spaces for connection and conversation.

For fathers who didn't have strong male role models, Chad offers empowering advice: "Surround yourself with the people that you want to be most like." He emphasizes finding mentors and building circles of influence that reflect the person you aspire to become, reminding men that it's never too late to seek guidance about fatherhood or marriage.

As you listen to this heartfelt conversation, you'll discover practical ways to strengthen family bonds, balance career demands, and build a legacy that extends beyond your lifetime. Whether you're a new father, a seasoned dad, or simply interested in creating positive family dynamics, Chad's story offers both inspiration and actionable wisdom for your journey.

Bishop Howard Tillman, New Covenant Believers' Church, takes us on an extraordinary journey from his humble beginnings in Springfield, Ohio to becoming a visionary church leader and international evangelist. With remarkable candor, he reveals how his father's unwavering work ethic and his mother's spiritual guidance shaped his understanding of manhood and faith.

The conversation takes a powerful turn when Bishop Tillman describes his spiritual awakening – moving from merely attending church to developing a genuine relationship with Christ. This transformation ultimately led him to make one of the most challenging decisions of his life: leaving his promising banking career to follow God's call into full-time ministry with only two speaking engagements lined up and a new mortgage to pay.

What follows is a masterclass in faith and fatherhood. Bishop Tillman shares how he balanced his demanding ministry responsibilities with family life, even making the bold decision to announce to his congregation that he would miss church to attend his sons' soccer tournament. "Your children are your first responsibility, not the church," he explains, "and no day is sacred when it comes to your children, not even Sunday."

For today's fathers navigating our complex world, Bishop Tillman offers profound wisdom about creating communities where men can be transparent about their struggles and support each other in becoming better fathers. "You can't grow if you're not transparent," he notes, highlighting how vulnerability within male friendships creates stronger families and communities.

Whether you're a father seeking practical guidance, someone exploring faith, or simply drawn to inspirational life stories, this conversation will leave you with powerful insights about purpose, legacy, and what it truly means to show up for the people who matter most. Listen now and join us in building stronger communities of men who defend, strengthen, and fortify one another.

  • BAB Podcast Fatherhood Series - Legacy of a Father: Lessons from Dan Britton
    2025/06/03

Send us a comment about the Be a Baller Podcast Episode. Thanks for support.

Dan Britton, long time Fellowship of Christian Athletes staff member, author, and founder of SportsLife Leadership reveals how his father's intentional approach to life and faith created ripples that continue long after his passing.

With remarkable vulnerability, Dan shares how his father balanced success in the financial world with passionate dedication to ministry. The family home became a revolving door for missionaries, creating an environment where faith wasn't just taught but lived breathlessly. Dan's father modeled what it means to be "a man on mission," approaching every relationship and opportunity with purpose. This intensity sometimes embarrassed young Dan but ultimately planted seeds that would flourish throughout his life.

At the heart of the conversation is Dan's father's framework for spiritual growth—"The Three D's of Devotion." Beginning with drudgery (showing up even when it feels like "eating bark"), progressing to discipline (creating habits), and finally reaching delight (anticipating God's presence), this process offers profound wisdom for spiritual development and parenting alike. The non-negotiable aspects of faith his father established, like consistent church attendance, created patterns that shaped Dan's adult life and ministry leadership.

Perhaps most powerful is Dan's reflection on how he both honored his father's legacy while thoughtfully breaking certain generational patterns. While his father showed love through intensity, Dan made a conscious choice to be more verbally and physically affectionate with his own children. Today, seeing five family members working in ministry brings him joy not just in his grandchildren but in watching his children become parents who carry forward the values that shaped them.

Whether you had a strong father figure or not, this conversation offers wisdom, encouragement, and practical guidance for building a legacy that stretches beyond your lifetime. Listen now and discover how everyday intentionality creates multigenerational impact that can transform families, communities, and the world.
