    I have a question for you:

    When you were younger, do you remember adults making comments about your height?
    It can be anything from “oh, you’re so big now!” to “you shouldn’t have given up that sport” to “you’re gonna scare the boys away with that height”. Sometimes, they may be light-hearted in their eyes, while other times, it’s passive-aggressive.

    For many tall girls, especially at ages 10, 11, or even 12, the first people to make us feel insecure about our bodies and height are, in fact, the adults in our lives, especially the ones closest to us.

    So today, we’re gonna talk about how some of our insecurities came from the adults in our early lives and why those things stick with us into adulthood. Tune in to the full episode for more!

    I wanna set the scene for y’all…

    I’m at the gym, on the treadmill, following my own advice and moving my body so I don’t feel the pains of being a tall girl. And so, there’s a glass window in front of the treadmills so when you look through it, you can see outside.

    And there’s a store across the street from my gym, so when I look out of this glass window, I can see the store. Now in the store window, I see a bunch of mannequins and one of the mannequins in particular (I don’t think you’re ready for this lol), was wearing one of the worst sights of my life.

    That mannequin was wearing CAPRIS.

    Not like jean capris, more like legging capris – I’m sure you understand what I’m saying.
    But I have no words, honestly. And if you’re a tall girly reading this, I’m sure you can understand the amount of disgust I felt.

    This is probably one of the biggest struggles tall women face: finding jeans.

    And not just any pair of jeans, but jeans that are flattering AND long enough. If you just had flashbacks or cringed or agreed or had any type of reaction to what I just said, I’m sure you understand the struggle.

    It’s not uncommon for a tall woman to walk into a store, bright and eager to buy a pair of jeans, pick a few of them off the rack, try them on, and they fit like capris.
    Oh dear, I’m having some bad memories right now.

    And online, it’s even worse because you can’t try them on. It’s easy to get excited when you see “tall sections”, purchase a pair of jeans from there, get them in the mail, only to try them on and find out they’re a 32-inch inseam. How is that considered tall??

    Honestly, who knows, but why is this jean struggle so bad for tall women? And how does this affect our relationship with jeans, clothes, and fashion overall? I answer that and more in today’s episode, so tune in!

    Dating as a tall woman…That is a…beautiful thing.

    Ok, growing up, it was lowkey awkward…well, for me at least.

    I’ve had a total of 3 crushes in my lifetime. Two of which were from middle school. And I was taller than both of them, of course. Ok, not like a million inches taller, but tall enough where you can notice the height difference. And it was very awkward, already while middle school being an awkward time in anyone’s life.

    But throughout the middle school years, I’d see them with their girlfriends who were always shorter than them. And I was like oh…so y’all don’t like me cuz I’m taller than you?? Welp, we’ll never know because I never asked. However, this became a pattern even as I got older – the whole girlfriends being shorter than their boyfriends. It kinda makes you ask, do guys prefer women who are shorter? Are tall women undesirable in the dating world?

    There is a strong connection between your height and your health. And yes, we commonly know the aches and pains and posture problems that come with being tall, but we’re gonna go deeper than that. Like I’m talking about chronic diseases, like bone disease, peripheral neuropathy, and certain cancers. Oof, that sounds scary. And lowkey it is, but we’ll get into that a little bit later.

    While we’re on the topic of diseases, apparently, being tall happens to be viewed as a disease, specifically for girls. Yeah, we’re going to get real deep into the health risks of being tall and what this whole “being tall was a disease” thing means, so let’s get into it!

    This episode was actually a request from one of you guys! One of you asked if I could do an episode on tall woman diseases, and if I could have a doctor on this episode. So yes, we are talking about diseases tall people are more susceptible to, BUT we don’t have a doctor on this episode lol. However, I will be incorporating TikTok videos of health professionals speaking on this matter.

    And this is a good time to provide a disclaimer. This is NOT meant to give medical advice. I am NOT a medical professional. I’m just a tall girl with a microphone who has done some research and is sharing it on the Internet lol.

    But before we get into diseases and so forth, let’s talk about something interesting I found.

    Apparently, being tall was viewed as a disease??? Back in the day, doctors would give young girls hormones to prevent them from growing to adult height. What’s the deal with that? Tune in to the full episode for more!

    Has anyone ever mistaken you for being older because of your height?

    I know I have, but we’ll get into that a little later. But I’m sure when you were like 11 or 12 or even a teenager, strangers or even distant family members assumed you were 1, 2, or even 5 years older than you actually were. And then when you told them your actual age, they were surprised. I mean at that age, many of us have baby faces, so it’s sometimes like: Do I really look that old???

    But what if I told you that regardless of whether or not people know your age, except maybe parents or close friends, people may treat you a certain way and perceive you a certain way because of your height. And yes, this goes for both tall and short girls.

    So without further ado, let’s get into it!

    Today, we are talking about how height affects how we are treated. Fun fact: We are talking a little bit about the short girlies and how they’re treated based on their height and will delve into that same topic for tall women. I know this podcast is for tall women, but I think for the purposes of this episode, it’s helpful to explain how this applies to the short girlies and compare that to the tall girlies.

    So apparently… tall girls are trending on social media???

    And lowkey for the wrong reasons.

    Let me explain.

    Over the past few weeks, I’ve been seeing on my TikTok feed specifically, men (keep this in mind for later), talking about tall women and saying how they’re beautiful, how they've been slept on in the dating world, and so forth. And these videos are getting tens of thousands and even hundreds of thousands of likes, views, shares, and so forth.

    Great. Awesome. You’re probably like, what’s wrong with that? Don’t you agree with them? Oh, of course I do. 100000%. But the thing is, tall women have been saying this for YEARS, but now it’s like, yesssssss tall women slay queen period sis purr. C’mon now.

    Now listen, this isn’t the only trend of tall women. We are trending right now for multiple reasons. It’s just that these men saying these things about tall women is a bit interesting to me. Once again, I don’t think that it’s a bad thing. I don’t think they have any ill intent. My thing is why is this a trending idea? Trends indicate what’s cool right now. What’s cool in the moment. Why is this cool right now when it should be cool overall, right?

    Tall women have always been amazing…it’s just why are so many people making this “trendy” now? And honestly, this really just shows how men kinda dictate what the societal beauty standards are and what’s considered conventionally attractive.

    That’s how we’re made to feel or even what we’re told growing up by our crush, our peers, even family and friends, and strangers. And it’s not a one-and-done thing. In fact, it’s recurring. We hear and feel this often enough for us to wonder:

    Does everyone have the same viewpoint of tall women?

    That we’re these ‘big’, awkward skyscrapers?

    Why? Why is this the case?

    I got 3 words for ya:

    Societal beauty standards.

    This is explained in a piece written in the Minnesota Daily by Sidney Clarke, who says, “height has been inextricably associated with a lack of conventional beauty.”
    Why is this the case? And how can we overcome this?
