It was a Monday afternoon in July. Leota, a mother of three, was home with her kids, doing the most ordinary of tasks — hanging laundry on the clothesline.
But while she was outside, someone is believed to have slipped into her home and waited.
What happened next shattered her family’s world — and left behind a mystery that’s remained unsolved for decades.
Still, there’s hope. Because every year, cold cases are solved — through advances in technology, and sometimes, because someone finally speaks.

In 1979, a woman drops her husband off to his shift at K-Mart in a shopping plaza in Shreveport, Louisiana. She doesn’t make it too far back towards home when she realizes her tire is flat. She pulls over to the side of the road and vanishes. While her husband was immediately fearful of foul play, some recent odd behavior led others to think maybe she had just run away. That was until a second young woman went missing just weeks later, from the same shopping plaza, and also had a punctured tire. This woman’s body would later be found, and the community would begin to panic about a predator in their midst. Real life events blended with tales and urban legends, with similar cases popping up, and evidence of violence lurking in the area. Through the years, investigators have gone through twists and turns, with some suspects in the case seeming more likely than others. But as of today, nobody has been held responsible for what happened to these two young women.

There is something so eerie about a case like the one I’m about to tell you about today. I think its because, sleeping in your bed in the comfort of your home is where you’re supposed to feel most safe. Ironically, its often the place small children feel most afraid and vulnerable.
In the early morning hours of the fourth of July in 2002, four year old Dannarriah was put to bed. Inside of her small Orange, Texas home was her mother, siblings, and cousins.
It should have been a routine night, but when her mother awoke, she was gone. Days later, her body would be found in the nearby community of Pleasure Island, and it was clear her last moments were horrific. Dannarriah’s case has DNA evidence, and all that is needed is just one small break.

If you’ve found this episode, you may have been pulled in by the title. And if you’ve listened to my show for a while, you know I try to avoid dramatic headlines and writing. But the fact of the matter is, no matter how many titles I tossed around for this episode, I kept coming back to the urgency of telling this story and how dangerous it’s going to be in Spring of 2027 for anybody living in the community that this prime suspect gets released into.
In April of 1995, a seventeen-year-old girl was hanging out a the strip mall in the town of Carmel, NY.
She was supposed to visit with her boyfriend that night, who worked at the Burger King there. But she didn’t show up. And the last person who saw her was a man with a trail behind him of predatory and violent behavior, most of which he evaded any consequences for. His actions in the years after Robin’s disappearance would land him a 30-year jail sentence. Despite ominous evidence that he is tied to Robin's case and quite possibly that of a 12-year-old Carmel girl who was murdered around the same time, he has never been charged in those cases. His prison time is up in less than two years. It's time that Robin's case finally gets answers and if its found to be this main suspect, that he remain behind bars and not a danger to the public.

The Montana Teacher of the Year was known for his words of wisdom, volunteering his time, coaching, mentoring, helping students in need, and leaving lasting impact on everyone he taught. So when he was gunned down in the early morning hours of September 30th, 1996 the community was shook. Within days, focus shifted on two former students of his. But between an acquittal and lack of evidence, nobody has ever been found guilty in the case. Small town rumors say that everyone knows who did it and its an open secret, but everyone has been too scared to talk. Cold case investigators are taking another shot at the case, and they hope the passage of time might motivate those who know something to come forward.

Its summer of 1990, a thirteen-year-old Texas girl named Deanna is doing her best, living in a difficult situation but also trying to just be a regular teenage girl. One night, she sneaks out of the house to visit her twin sister, who is staying with a relative. They chat for a bit before the relative wakes up and tells her to head back home. But Deanna would never make it back home that night. Her case has a lot of problems – including that its had various times where it hasn’t been investigated at all. Its also had a lot of red herrings – distractions that remain prevalent in the narrative that the public hears. In this episode, I’m joined by Deanna’s younger sister Melissa, the person who is working so hard to push her case forward – and she wants to set the record straight so that people are focusing on the right things moving forward. The pieces that could help bring her and her family long awaited answers.

July 1986 - Silver Spring, Maryland. – A nineteen-year-old black man named Keith Warren heads out for an evening and never returns home. Two days later, he is found hanging from a tree in a wooded area behind a townhome complex. From the moment law enforcement arrived at the scene, everything was egregiously mishandled, and Keith’s case was abruptly ruled as a suicide and closed. As time went on more and more things surfaced that made Keith’s loved ones suspicious of those he was hanging around as well as with and the people in uniform in Montgomery County. Everything came to a head nearly six years after Keith’s death, on what would have been his 25th birthday. An envelope was left on Keith’s mother’s doorstep, and its contents would shake up everything in the case. In it were photos of Keith on that tree and nothing matched the narrative that had been shared by law enforcement. Paired with the photos was an ominous warning about another local man tied to the case, who would die in suspicious fashion not long after. Keith’s mother spent the rest of her life searching for answers and accountability in Keith’s case, and after her death, Keith’s sister Sherri picked up the torch and has carried it ever since. Sherri graciously joined me for an interview in today’s episode to discuss where things stand today and what she still hopes to be done.

In January of 1981, an Oklahoma woman is celebrating her 21st birthday. She kisses her husband goodbye that morning as he heads to school, and she tells him that she plans to run errands, have lunch with a friend, and have a quiet dinner in with him that evening. She talks to friends and family that morning who call to wish her a Happy Birthday, but she stops responding in the early afternoon. When her husband comes home, he walks into a nightmare. Despite the brutality of her murder, motive could not be established and the case seemed to be a random and senseless act of violence. At the time of this recording, 44 years have gone by since that fateful day and two very random clues could hold the key to solving the case.
