As a wedding photographer, capturing those special moments in manual mode can make a world of difference in the quality and creativity of your images. While it may seem intimidating at first, with a little practice and a good understanding of your camera settings, you can achieve stunning results. In this podcast, I'll guide you through three essential manual settings for wedding photography that will help you create beautiful, memorable images.

The aperture is one of the most critical settings to control in manual mode. It determines the amount of light entering your camera and has a profound impact on depth of field. For wedding photography, you'll often want to achieve a shallow depth of field to isolate your subjects and create a dreamy, blurred background.

• Choose a low f-number (wide aperture) like f/1.8, f/2.8, or f/4.0. This will create a shallow depth of field, perfect for portraits and close-up shots of the couple.
• Adjust the ISO setting to maintain the correct exposure. Lower ISO settings (e.g., ISO 100-400) are preferable in well-lit conditions to minimize noise in your photos.

Shutter speed controls how long the camera's sensor is exposed to light. For wedding photography, you need to find a balance between capturing the moment and avoiding motion blur. 

• Aim for a minimum shutter speed of 1/125 to 1/250 seconds for static shots. This will help you avoid camera shake and capture sharp, still images.
• In low-light situations or for capturing fast-moving moments, increase the ISO and use a faster shutter speed, but be mindful of noise.

ISO determines the camera's sensitivity to light. In manual mode, you'll want to control ISO manually to maintain image quality.

• Set your camera to Manual mode (often marked as "M").
• Keep your ISO as low as possible (e.g., ISO 100-400) to minimize noise in well-lit conditions.
• In low-light situations, gradually increase the ISO while keeping an eye on noise levels. Strike a balance between getting a well-exposed shot and minimizing noise. Use ISO 800-1600 or higher when necessary.
